Matcollis This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.
GetPapa Far from Perfect, Far from Terrible
Sharkflei Your blood may run cold, but you now find yourself pinioned to the story.
Janae Milner Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
Neal It's hard to find a Kevin Spacey performance that doesn't deliver and this one is no exception. He's great in it and all the characters are well developed with one exception. I don't want to spoil the movie at all but I think you'll see what I mean as you watch it. It was also very nice to see a movie that was clearly made in Los Angeles, just about every scene was in a neighborhood I recognized. From Los Feliz to the Hollywood hills and Griffith Park to the Bank of America building downtown, every scene was real Los Angeles which is always a treat for us locals. It's got drama and a little humor delivered on perfect pitch all the way through and you'll find it easy to lose yourself in the story.
napierslogs Kevin Spacey is the "Shrink", a pot-smoking, dejected L.A. therapist. Celebrities walk in and out of his office, leaving him even less caring. There is a fair amount of humour in the dialogue making all of the lonely, despondent people not quite as sad as they otherwise would be.The plot should develop when he meets Jemma (Keke Palmer) a downcast teenager. She's the one that seems to tie in all the characters; the suffering screenwriter, the delusional executive, the pregnant assistant, the ageing actress, and the womanizing, alcoholic Robin Williams (I think he probably is playing his real self). It's an ensemble film with interweaving characters, but not much happens. It gets interesting at the end, but they don't take the potential amusing conflicts anywhere, just giving the characters happier resolutions. "Shrink" is a well written, well made film, but the plot is replaced with depressed characters searching for just a little bit of meaning which the film is actually able to supply.
Spaceygirl In a word - Brilliant. 'Shrink' is one of those movies with a huge cast and lots of different characters that leave you feeling quite disorientated till you work out who's who and how everyone fits together. An outstanding cast that includes Robert Loggia, Robin Williams (playing against type) Keke Williams, Saffron Burrows and Dallas Roberts led by the incomparable Kevin Spacey, who is his usual brilliant self. (Biased? ME?) The script sparkles and the characters are very engaging. A bit on the kooky side but hey, this IS Hollywood! Very funny and very scathing, Jonas Pate has turned in a winner with this one. I just can't understand why it's been overlooked in the awards department. Very highly recommended!
legionhunterer Just watched "shrink" last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good to see Kevin Spacey in another class film. Not sure if I'll recommend this film to everybody, lots of weed smoking going on, but it's not a weed smoking comedy, or a film for people who smoke it, it's just a good film, that happens to include a lot of it in a way to show how this man has fallen from his emotional pedestal. I've been quite negative about American films recently (namely the American action films) but this film is certainly one that I'll buy on DVD in the years to come. Class acting from Kevin spacey, in fact, all the actors including the younger ones were very convincing in each of their roles that they played.
