KnotMissPriceless Why so much hype?
StunnaKrypto Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Maurizio Ops, I did it again. I tried to watch another Asian horror movie. And for the third time in a row (the second one being Wishing Stairs, the first one I don't even remember the title) I turned it off before one hour of running time. How many more films do Asians have to make where there is a ghostly, white faced, long messy haired girl appearing here and there and scaring the various characters? There is really nothing original in this movie, NOTHING. Ghosts appearing in photos, wow, big deal, we've never seen that before. Gory scenes that turn up to be nightmares, suddenly interrupted by the dreaming character who gasps and jumps seated in his bed. Big effing deal, once again. And the clichés go on and on and on...But the biggest problem about this movie is that it's BORING. It is painfully slow paced, the acting is among the lamest you could ever hope to avoid witnessing, the dialogues are monotonous, there is no atmosphere at all, it only relies on trite, corny jump scares and not much more.I'm done with Asian horror, I swear.
Shweta Mayekar I remember watching the American version at a sleepover and instinctively knew it was a remake of an Asian film (I had wrongly assumed Japanese) and that I had to watch it. The story stayed with me and I decided it was time to watch the original version and be spared the crassness of the Hollywood version. This makes use of a few jump-scares but also uses slow horror to freak the viewer out. But its the plot here that nails it. Good acting by the leads. This is Asian horror at its near best. I wouldn't say its one of the greatest (I will leave that title to the Jap ones), but this is a pretty good attempt.
Walterbili666 I read about this movie on IMDb and reluctantly decided to give it a try because I really liked the concept of the story but didn't think it would amount to much. I can't even remember when I last saw a good horror movie. I couldn't have been more wrong. What I found was a really creepy and amazing movie from beginning to end. This is by far the best horror/thriller movie I have watched in years, maybe the best I've ever watched.Ignore any negative reviewsA must see!
Tokyo-1997 This movie, Shutter really has a very good storyline with many unique scares. This movie is very well paced and the more scary moments comes toward the end. This movie is unique because the ghosts attacks the photos. There are many interesting scenes in this movie. The dark humour (about the toilet scene) in this movie contributes a whole lot to this movie. The ending of this movie was similar to ringu 2 but was done far better than that show. That was lots of character development and the acting of this film was just great. The staircase scene in which the main character keeps on being on the fourth floor was interesting. The scene where the main character's wife vomits blood is terrifying and entertaining(This is not a common scene in other horror movies) Everything in this movie was clear and explained very well. The ghost, Natre who walks on the ceiling was well done and terrifying. However, I still do have one major complain about this movie. I thought the part where the main character tries to escape by climbling the ladder out of the window was just too ridiculous. The ghost climbing out of the window chasing him makes things even less scary and really ridiculous. A ghost that climbs out of a window just doesn't seem scary, its ridiculous. Furthermore, it was raining, hence the scary atmosphere was drained off by the rain. A horror movie would not be scary anymore if it was raining. One particular reason why I find this movie more effective than Ringu is because most of the scariest scenes take place at night, in a very dark atmosphere(the best scene being the blanket scene). However, the scary scenes in ringu are shown during the day, hence there is a lack of this dark, nighttime atmosphere. I thought the blanket scene was far better than the one in A tale of two sisters. This movie is awesome. Though terror and fear are not distributed evenly throughout the entire movie for me. This movie has an extremely clear and stable storyline with some twists here and there. This movie has got many terrifying scenes. The last few scenes towards the end of the movie are not very scary but extremely entertaining. I found this movie to be more effective than ringu. Other than that, this movie is still scary, terrifying and electrifying and highly recommended. Score: 9.1/10
