The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

Sleeping With Other PeopleStarts off breezy and light, surprisingly keeping it real and on the track until it takes a highway in its final acts where things get intense resulting into a "movie" movie if compared to other Jason's installments.

In 2002, college student Jake (Jason Sudeikis) finds Lainey (Alison Brie) yelling for Matthew (Adam Scott) in the hallway. Jake and Lainey end up losing their virginity to each other. In the present day, the two run into each other in a sex addiction support group. They haven't seen each other since that night. Jake sleeps with inappropriate women rather than maturely breaking up his failed relationships. Lainey has been in an on-and-off affair with Matthew even after his marriage to Emma. Jake and his best friend Xander cash out by selling their business to a big company. Quickly, Jake is flirting with the company lawyer Paula (Amanda Peet). Jake and Lainey have a platonic relationship but their romance is never far below the surface. This hits on similar terrain as When Harry met Sally. Sudeikis and Brie have some slightly irreverent brand of humor but it's never completely edgy. They seem well matched. The missing element is the uncontrollable heat. Sudeikis is a little too standoffish and always joking around. There seems to be good possibilities with these two but it fails to land that knockout punch.

I liked the idea of this movie but it failed to keep me interested. The relationship is unrealistic and there is zero chemistry between Jake and Lainey. Actually, there's a lack of chemistry between any of the characters (exception being the banter between Jake's co-worker and his wife after the end and before rolling credits). There were a couple of things that actually annoyed me. For example, Lainey's complete ignorance about masturbation, orgasm and female anatomy in general (even though she was pre-med undergrad and was eventually admitted to med school). Even if that were plausible, it's doubtful that some serial cheating (borderline misogynistic) narcissist would be the one to show her how to climax. Finally, it's odd that he tags along with her into the fitting room of a lingerie boutique for conversation. I have male friends and that just doesn't happen. I don't want to pick this apart but I can't spare the obvious for the sake a being entertained by a rom-com for 120 mins.

You think you know exactly what this movie is going to be like, but it definitely manages to surprise you.It is an amazingly written story. The characters are weird and awkward at times, but in the most endearing way. There were some lines in this movie that were absolutely profound and they almost shocked you with the level of sincerity. There's plenty of laughter and plenty of over the top sex scenes (if that's your thing), but also plenty of real moments where you identify completely with the characters.Production wise I assume everything was great. I didn't anything out of order, but I didn't notice anything special either because I was completely caught up in the story. They say the best cinematography and sound is completely unnoticeable because it fits the story like a glove.I really enjoyed it a lot. It was surprising, which is not often the case in this genre.
