At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

Been reading a lot of negative reviews here, and what I have to say is:
If you can't see the deeper meaning of this movie, don't review it. Move on with your life, and let the smarter people out there enjoy this fantastic movie.
Also, - If you're expecting a lot from a movie and get disappointed, try to enjoy the movie for what it was, and not what you wanted it to be.Without spoiling anything, I will have to say that the acting was all right, but absolutely not the best, that however, does not have an impact on the movie, as the story is too good not to watch because of a minor "error".
I have seen plenty of horror movies in my days to be able to see past some budget acting in order to watch and enjoy a good story horror film.Nothing is being too much read into, the amount of "gore" (more like little nasties, trying not too spoil here!) and creepy scenes in this movie is perfect, as it is not over-done just to get a scare out of you. Story was good, all the way from start to finish, although I would call this more of a mystery, kind of psychological-ish kinda of horror, as it in my opinion, is not a plain horror movie. Anywho, the movie is in my opinion worth watching, and I will continue to recommend it to people who I know will enjoy this fantastic movie.Thanks.

This is an interesting chiller about people doing horrible things when they are asleep, or think they are. It does contain a fair few children, however. I mention this because children in horror films tend to fall into two categories: genuinely frightening (The Exorcist, The Ring etc) ... or brattish. 'Slumber' manages to straddle both possibilities, which is something of a first. Stumbling, screaming kids and ghost-like images are fairly well conveyed, never truly annoying and occasionally producing something genuinely sinister.The soundtrack, a dark ambience by Ulas Pakkan must take a lot of credit for the omnipresent atmosphere of not-quite-reality-or-is-it, and the cast are uniformly very good, even when - in the case of Maggie Q as Alice Arnolds and Will Kemp as husband Tom - the characters are not overtly dynamic.It can be, I'm sorry to say, a little dull, very talky. But there are plenty of moments that deliver the goods. The idea of demon feeding off nightmares is a good one, and it plays on a fear of going to sleep, the debilitating misery of resisting slumber and that hollow pang it can cause.Events are enlivened by the appearance of former Doctor Who and Radagast, Sylvester McCoy, who hams up delightfully the typically eccentric Armado. We only catch a glimpse of the lengths Armado has gone to to resist falling asleep, and it is disturbing.

I liked the idea of a horror movie based on sleep paralysis. It's completely different from nightmares while you're actually asleep and dreaming, so it's nice to see a new spin on it.Maggie Q is great as always. The other actors are decent. Child actors are pretty standard child actors (nothing spectacular). The story drags along a bit slowly for my tastes but it is acceptable for me. However, there are a lot of pitfalls in terms of common sense in this movie that it's not quite right. Not a movie I'd recommend specifically, but if someone was looking through some movies and asked me, I'd tell them I'd watch it. Not a bad movie, just not a good one either.SPOILER ALERTMy biggest criticism has to be the janitor and his father. It seems really randomly inserted and doesn't really quite fit in my opinion. They do not provide answers. They don't know more than what we all know. This is followed up by scenes where they're all just sitting there not doing anything. And the way the whole sequence happened with each individual's nightmares.. it just paints the family as incredibly weak willed and selfish. They even let a random stranger die instead of their kid.And in the end, they let the doctor get taken away into a mental hospital? You've got to be kidding me. She saves their kid and that's how they repay her?

The movie could have been better. It was neither boring, nor was it scary enough. I don't mean to complain a lot, but since IMDb requires 5+ lines for each review. I have no choice but to criticize the movie even further.So, here it is: I liked the character development of the main characters. However, there was one person that I could not understand: the old man. I mean, was he intentionally portrayed as a funny and weird guy that said awkward stuff, or was he supposed to be the wise and mysterious guy who would eventually save the day? To me, his character was not suitable enough for a horror movie (Of course, I have seen comedy in some well-known horror series such as The Conjuring that worked perfectly). But this guy...he was way too awkward. And it was probably because of his crudely designed personality that I felt nothing when he died. For me, it was more of a "Oh thank God the weird guy is out of the picture, literally" rather than a "oh no, the wise man died, but as a hero". Also, plot and everything else aside, please do not leave your child with a man you just met. Even if your house is infested with demons. Thank you!
