Absolutely the worst movie.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

I can tell what they were trying to do here. Make a film that real life drama film ended up like a lifetime movie that missed the cut. If you have ever seen a movie that made you think, what the F*** was that? This is probably similar to that movie. There is not one likable character in this movie.Unfit mother. Depressed, psycho, alcoholic ex. New boyfriend who is a degenerate. The best thing about this movie was the credits when it ended.

A sad and a hard movie. And the full extent of its heaviness you will realize not during the watching, but after that. A heart heaviness doesn't leave fast enough. This film is mainly about human or family relationships, about giving another a chance to be forgiven, the ability to ask for forgiveness. About a bunch of things that come up from the relations between people. And those items we call 'life'. Sam Rockwell (my applause) and Kate Beckinsale did amazing performances (maybe the best roles too) and at their best, revealing a many-sided personality of the characters. Playing a his character Rockwell shows us his great acting talent and being a master of many-sided personality.

This film is one full of tragedy, sadness, loss - a bit of humour, found love, lost love, meaning of life and questions of why people are the way the are - or are not. One of the characters explains that when trouble comes, she hides. Her advice is not to be like she is. But she makes no effort to explain how to do this. There is much about broken relationships, damaged resonsibilites, of who is right or wrong. Life goes on, so the saying goes. But, it doesn't go on the way people think it should or hope it would. This film is fraught with some of the most annoying characters to ever fill the wide screen. There is no real explanation for their accumulated anger - just that they are angry. Each of the most angry are shown having times of complete calm and reason. At other times, they explode in anger - to the point of verbal or other violence. Makes no sense. The question is why? Are they all nuts? Do they all hate each other so much - or is it the semi-nasty weather? Who knows. Sam Rockwell seems to be regularly good at playing over the top characters. He does fine here. But, its all over the top. Its plain annoying - and it doesn't make a bit of sense, in my humble opinion. The others, principals and supporting, at least seem to have reason. But, the huge outbursts don't necessarily hold. As I said, it makes little sense, in my humble opinion. Others may see some great tragedy in all that develops. There are some cute scenes between two characters which act as counterpoint to all the meanness. And the scenes of the marching band that can't march add some lightness. In the end, this is a mediocre film, often slow, often boring. The resolutions to the various human conflicts come as no surprises. A film well worth avoiding.

I've heard of this movie for a very long time (I guess 2 years or a little less) and I've been very interested to watch it. Finally, it came on to HBO just this past Thursday. With my sister, we watch the entire movie from the start to finish and I was shock. Shock about how the story unfolds given these twist and turns that kept me going. Also, the well done performance for the actors and not just the principles actors like Kate, Sam, and Michael but also the actors who had the small roles, without them also the movie wouldn't have the same feeling that I had experienced.Kate Beckinsale who I have been a fans of hers for the past years did an excellent job in her role. During the course of the film, I had several emotions about her character Annie. I was feeling happy for the character, mad at her but feeling sad for her for what happened to her daughter and what happened to herself.I must say, (and this part contains spoilers for those who didn't see it) the death of Annie I felt was UNJUSTIFLIED. Why? Simple, she didn't deserve to be killed and especially by Glenn (Sam Rockwell). Glenn had no right to shoot her in the back of the head just because of she had done to him. He blames her for the death of their child when it wasn't her fault. Annie was too sick to stay awake and watch her child. She could of called her mom and ask her to watch her little girl or lock the doors so her child didn't get out. Annie was already punishing herself and felt guilty about what she had done. This feeling I have about the film is why I think the movie is so brilliant. The other actors as I said before did a fantastic job. David Gordon Green was very brilliant as a writer and director. I thought his vision of the film was very suitable for the content of the story. Although, I didn't like the last ten seconds of the film when Glenn's mom calls out for her dog. I thought it was random but it maybe its meant to be there.Overall, the movie was fantastic and I would always treasure this film. I have to read the novel which this movie is based on.I give this movie a 10/10 See the film!!!
