ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
Yash Wade Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Eyahf_21 Another typical dance-musical movie, there's the drama and romance of course. At first, I found the choreography unfussy and nothing unique. On the later part, I found the Step moves extra ordinary and brilliant combination.I came to noticed that When Chris Brown was shot, nobody was there to console except for he's brother. I mean why does they're crew mate gone.I found no chemistry between Meagan and Columbus but as individual, they did well. Chris Brown performance in this film was notable. Ne-Yo was a good supporting cast. The cinematography and music were not bad, so-so.I found the climax notable because of the emotion divulges and he finally took responsible for his mistake in the past that result to the death of his younger brother. The ending was quite predictable besides of winning the competition he finally learns to think not only himself or his pride but also for the sake and success of his team. VERDICT:The story was typical, same old drama and romantically involved. Street dancers got into trouble, riot with other crew. Brother's friendship, younger brother dies.It reminded me of those dance flick movie such as you got served and drum line. However, still this movie was exceptional because the writers showed On how the guy changes his life by making best decision in life. On how he prevails over he's pride. That beyond the rivalry and competition, he pledge to the fraternity of a lifetime. That beyond the tradition, what matter is how the brotherhood helps each other to become a better man:+++
P E So what if this is clichéd, so what if it's a combination of 2 different movies (which I disagree). This is one of the first black film I can sit back and watch that does not have any cursing, sex, a lot of violence etc. Is it so hard for black people to accept being seen in a different light? Are we as black people not tired of the violent, unintelligent and downright stupid characters we are cast to play in movies? This movie is damn good (if I may so) and I will say that because I can safely sit down with my kids and watch it without have to skip over anything. All you haters out there, let us see you do something better without the expletives, sex scenes etc.. I love the quote at the end, that was a nice touch.
Kristine When I think of these movies like How She Move or You Got Served, I always thought they would be ignorant and just celebrating the "gangsta" rap life style and would be a waste of good film. But for some reason I decided to just go ahead and see what these films were like, I had nothing better to do, I was expecting bad, but guess what?! I actually liked it! I couldn't believe it, I mean, I really did like Stomp the Yard. There's really not anything wrong with the film, while it is predictable, it's definitely better than most films. I'm actually disgusted with a lot of the users who rated this movie a one just because of it's theme, I just stayed away because I thought I wouldn't like the film, but I wouldn't rate it before I saw it. But honestly I'm glad I decided to give it a chance, it has decent enough actors and an inspiring story to follow.DJ and his brother, along with a few friends, they are in an underground street dance group, one night it goes bad though. After DJ and his brother win, their group gets jumped and DJ's brother is shot and killed. DJ goes to Atlanta to go to school, he meets April, a beautiful young woman and wants to do better for her, his family, for his brother, and for himself. He joins a fraternity that is into dancing, together they bring themselves into the championship. But another fraternity wants DJ out and will do anything to bring him down. Now when I watched this film I had very low expectations, like I said before, it's a film that just naturally seems like it's going to be bad. But it's actually a decent film and I'm just disappointed with the rating here on IMDb. The film has good acting, a decent story, and incredible dance moves. The actor Columbus Short who played DJ was great, he didn't over play the role and didn't under do it either. I would recommend Stomp the Yard, I ended up really liking it, just give it a chance, when you look at it, you realize it's a good film.6/10
Anthony A I just recently watched this movie and I actually have to say, I was a bit impressed. I went into this movie with low expectations, assuming it would be pretty bad. However, that wasn't the case at all! The movie is surprisingly pretty good. The movie has a good soundtrack and some pretty awesome dance sequences that make you want to get up and dance. The acting is pretty good as well considering they're all pretty much dancers/musicians. The story line keeps you interested, yes it is a bit predictable at times, but most of these type of films are. This film has a little bit of everything in it, good plot, conflict, romance, comedy, drama. If you enjoy films of all types, I would recommend this movie to you. The movie does a good job of showing us the tradition of stepping while adding an inspirational feel. Showing a young African American go from having his brother killed on the streets to making a name for he and his partners at the collegiate level. Solid film, with some great dance sequences. Sad that it is sitting on a 3.2 rating.
