Konterr Brilliant and touching
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Orla Zuniga It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Sabah Hensley This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
jodyshealy And this little gem didn't change my mind. I was sent a screener from CA by the director and when I offered to send it back he told me to keep it. It really is great and well researched by passionate people that have written books about it, check Amazon for the names of some of the interviewees. Lucha libre is one of the most outlandishly fantastic pro wrestling styles but even if you're not a pro wrestling fan this is a very well done labor of love. Watch it and be mesmerized for a little while:)
jimmyishere I am not much of a wrestling fan but a coworker mentioned this movie so I tried it out. Was I ever surprised! The movie was fun, entertaining, and I learned quite a bit about the art and history of wrestling. The movie was colorful, I enjoyed the folklore and the human psyche that was explored, all in all it was an excellent blending of human spirit,Mexican culture, sport and art. I never realized that there could be so much passion in the world of wrestling. I'm glad I took a chance with a movie subject that I normally would not have chosen.
E. T. I rarely watch a film more than once; however, I have watched this one several times now.I grew up watching wrestling on television and at the stadium so I was very excited to see that this filmmaker had done such an outstanding job. I thought the historical context was particularly fascinating. The interviews throughout the film helped to provide additional background. The imagery is very well done. The number of scenes in the ring and outside the ring had the right balance of action and information.I wish it was longer since I was left hoping for more.I am looking forward to my next wrestling outing.
Xaviergarza This DVD has all that a true fan of lucha libre could hope for. It gives you a detailed overview of the history of the sport, and goes even further. It literally takes you into the lives of these masked men and women that live their lives behind a mask. It also tell the story of El Santo, the greatest luchador in the history of the sport. Such detailed accounts on the life of this historic figure are truly rare, so this is a must have for all fans of this incredible world of masked heroes and villains. Director Carlos Avila truly submerged himself into the world of lucha libre, and gives a glimpse into this world that is not only enlightening, but also humanizes them to the point where you truly connect with them. Especially touching is the chapter that speaks of the way the mask created by a Luchador becomes a family heirloom, handed down from one generation to the next.
