A Masterpiece!

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

The movie is surprisingly subdued in its pacing, its characterizations, and its go-for-broke sensibilities.

I read the cover of this movie and thought that it would be a zombie movie, WWII style, a la Day of the Dead. However... this movie swirled around the deep recesses of the darkness in which it was filmed, only to arrive at virtually nothing.Throughout the movie, the writers attempt some kind of commentary on the evils of Nazi Germany, but seems to focus on very strange, peripheral evils, rather than on some of the big ones.Aside from all this, there apparently isn't any kind of creature(s) roaming the depths of the bunker, and all the men that die are at each other's hands, thanks to some kind of hallucinogenic gas in the tunnels. The ending has the feeling of some kind of "trial by fire", the only problem being that we were never really clearly given the emotional struggle of the character(s).The best part of the movie was the fact that this small platoon of Germans was played by British actors, who didn't even attempt to hide their accents.Perhaps not a complete was of my life, but I wouldn't recommend it.

In 1944, in the Belgian German border, seven German soldiers survive an American attack in the front and lock themselves in a bunker to protect the position. Under siege by the enemy and with little ammunition, they decide to explore underground tunnels to seek supplies and find an escape route. While in the tunnel, weird things happen with the group.I have recently seen the South Korean movie "R-Point" (2004), which efficiently explores the idea of "The Bunker" scary and ambiguous journey to hell of the innermost fear of a group of soldiers, in an intelligent screenplay. Now I find that "The Bunker" is a 2001 movie, which has the originally of the concept, but unfortunately the confused screenplay does not work well. The acting is good, but the development of the plot could be better and better. For those viewers that also find that something is missing in the story, I strongly suggest seeing "R-Point" for comparison of what "The Bunker" could have been with some improvements. My vote is five.Title (Brazil): "The Bunker Em Guerra Contra o Medo" ("The Bunker In War against the Fear")

When I opted to watch this movie, I honestly expected (hoped for) just a good war movie. I did not get what I hoped for I got more. I, like many of my fellow contributors am a history buff and I too noted a few errors with the uniforms. However, though not a true expert like some here, I know that as late as 1944, things weren't going well for the Germans and they did have to improvise from time to time. Desperation is just as much a mother of invention as necessity. With that said, I wish to comment on the substance of the movie itself as I feel it's the more important issue.A quick plot summary; It's 1944 on the Western Front and a group of German soldiers escape an ambush in the Ardennes Forest only to take refuge in a bunker on the Siegfried Line. They know the Americans are out there and very much out number them, but they cannot see them. They are ordered to hold out and assist the bunkers remaining defenders, a teenage boy and scruffy old World War One veteran who has been called back to service. The kid is impressionable and has not experienced war yet, the old man has and being a local native, also knows some of the areas grizzly past which he shares with his new comrades. As time passes and things get more desperate the unit begins to face terrors they did not expect.I just watched it last night for the first time. I was spellbound. This terrific little film is not a monster movie per se. It's a psychological thriller were the monsters are not 'out there' but inside each man. For some it's the loss of a comrade or relative. For some, it's guilt. For some it's the need to prove themselves and drugs take their toll on one man as well. This is not a movie for those who enjoy cheesy slasher flix. Sure, they can be entertaining, but this is a movie that makes you think. You see these men who, if they truly are in an elite unit have nothing to prove, unravel under the worst of circumstances. Towards the end, even those who "held on" mentally still come face to face with the demons in their minds as they struggle to survive.I would not only recommend this to anyone who really loves a good horror movie, but would seriously suggest it for viewing in a psychology course.

I have seen this film a few times now,and find it very intriguing,i keep watching it trying to work out the plot,is it what you think?is there something missing?is there something I'm not getting?tell me.Its great at getting your mind focused, and yet you still think your missing the plot.Great phychological film, and totally original,i think this could easily become a British cult horror, although i don't think it was ever intended to be.It was made on a very tight budget, with no special effects and shows to make a good horror film you don't need to spend millions.I don't know why people have a problem with the English accents,as there plain ordinary accents with no strong dialects,if they had my English accent the film definitely wouldn't work, well not unless it was a comedy. The reason the director hasn't used the actors talking with a German accent is probably because his not trying to stereotype Germans like in other war films, this is what makes this war film very different. The director has used his imagination rather than not used it.He hasn't based the story on British soldiers, simply because its been done before, such as Deathwatch which came out about the same time, and thats a horror based on British soldiers in a trench. This film had to experiment with something different,so they have used German soldiers. And Germans like Brits believe in the supernatural so it works in that aspect. I don't know why the Germans have never made a film about their haunted u boat of WW1,which is a famous ghost legend,i cant remember what the Uboat was called, but its a scary story,a must for ghost enthusiasts. It would make a great film, maby someone will take it on.
