Dorathen Better Late Then Never
Janae Milner Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
Tyreece Hulme One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
akg1249 Such has been Wesley Snipes' career despite his obvious talent that he has had to take up many shoddy projects just to keep his coffee warm. Nevertheless, it's always good to see Wesley Snipes kick and punch and shoot the bad guys. When it comes to action flicks, he's a reliable hero and a natural. But if that's why you wanna watch this movie, don't. Chances are solid that you won't even last the full length of this movie in your seat. This is a low-budget, straight-to-video affair that does barely enough to be considered a movie. 'Could've been good' can be said about lots of movies but let's not go there with this one because nearly everything would need to be redone from the scratch to make something good out of the plot. Acting is meh while everything else is just plain trash. CGI used in simulating action scenes is low-class and pathetic. Tim Dutton impresses with his persona; I wouldn't mind seeing him as a villain in other serious projects. Pretty Italian actress, Silvia Colloca, is mostly irritating trying to pass off her flat chest as a well-endowed bosom with the help of a push-up bra. Eeek! William Hope is one of those actors who can't perform badly even if he wanted to.VERDICT: Avoid, unless you have nothing to do in your life like I do.SIMILAR & BETTER movies: Matt Damon's BOURNE series, Spy Game, Ronin, Casino Royale
gridoon2018 "Low-budget" or "straight to video / DVD" don't equal "bad" in my book, and "The Detonator", a Wesley Snipes vehicle that falls into both of the above categories, may largely be a routine actioner, but it does contain some solid action sequences and some respect-worthy stunts (most of the fights are blink-and-you'll miss them, though). The plot is reasonably twisty-turny, and Silvia Colloca adds welcome grace and emotion to the film (she even gets her own "angelic" music theme: this may sound like a corny idea, but she has the "angelic" beauty to justify it). Even the Romanian shooting locations are pretty well used. Passable action fare. (**1/2)
Batkid1 I previously enjoyed Snipe's last two efforts "Chaos" and "7 Seconds" and hated his other trilogy of cheap cash-ins known as "Unstoppable," "The Marksman" and "The Contractor." I give this film credit because I saw it for free on USA cable network, which loves this sort of content. Anyway, this movie starts out talking about terrorists and how they love to steal nuclear devices. The character development is almost next-to-none therefore making a regular B-movie to set it apart from the other DVDs on your videostore. You get a good stunts that look realistic, a guy who you know is goingto betray Snipes, but yet the movie-makers act like it is still a creative twist. There is promise in Snipes making a creative comeback, but that hope demises when you start hearing a voice that sounds nothing like him come out of his mouth. His co-star Slivia Collaca (one of the brides in the dreadful "Van Helsing") has little to work with and gets a little annoying because she yells a lot and can't defend herself really well. The director also directed another common DTV star's movie that starred none other then Steven Seagal if it makes you feel any better about this flick. Anyway, Snipes topples the bad guys's plan only to result in getting killed as well, thus, leaving a very disappointed viewer.
xredgarnetx The real star of THE DETONATOR is the special effects department, as a veritable unending series of cars are blown up and people who get shot definitely look like they are getting shot. Wesly Snipes costars with these eye-popping special effects as an American agent who must protect the widow of a man who stole $30 million from the Romanian mob. Snipes is actually in terrific shape for an aging action star, but it is sad to see him reduced to appearing in one STV after another in recent years. Shot on the cheap in Romania, with a largely Romanian cast and crew, THE DETONATOR looks a lot like any current Steven Segall STV shot overseas. What is Snipes thinking? He is, or was, a major Hollywood star. He doesn't look or act like he has aged a day since MONEY TRAIN, so I don't get it. Could the money be that good? The widow, played by Silvia Collaca, is a knockout and the only real reason for watching this highly predictable thriller. By the way, THE DETONATOR looks like it may have been shot back-to-back with THE MARKSMAN, in which Snipes portrays an Army sniper in Romania. I fell asleep during that one, but my wife enjoyed it!
