Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
SeeQuant Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
Patience Watson One of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.
Gordon-11 This film is about a young woman trying to find out what really happened to her elder sister who was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in Portugal.I was hoping it to be a touching and engaging movie. I just expected something better especially when Cameron Diaz is in it. Unfortunately, the plot is slow and fails to engage at all. Jordana Brewster's emotions seems shallow and even restricted. I did not really care about any of the characters either, as they all seem irresponsible and dispensable. In such a plot and character driven film, such flaws are fatal. Hence, even the good lighting, cinematography and amazing European scenery cannot save this film from being a waste of time, and money.
insomniac_rod I caught this on late, late Mexican cable and I have to rant about it. The title was translated as "Secretos" (Secrets). Well there's a secret that has an important part in the movie but come on, ! We are not stupid. We know there's a novel behind this.Anyways, the movie is pretty interesting and it's carried by it's solid ramatic performances. The always beautiful and stunning Jordana Brewster and Christopher Eccleston deliver great performances and have such great chemistry between them. Cameron Dìaz is also good although she has minimal on-screen time. Blythe Danner is perfect and his last appearance in the movie is touching, sad. Great performances. Jordana's character and her sister's ex-boyfriend travel to Europe in order for her to deal with his demons and understand why her sister died. Through flashbacks, we learn the sad truth and we can't help but feel sorry for the whole family. The ending is truly moving. So there's nudity but it's minimal. In fact, the sex scenes are artsy and do not intend to be steamy or sexy.To be honest, I kept watching it for Joranda Brewster's on screen charming and beauty. And I ended up liking the story and the dramatic presentations. Give this movie a try if you like solid dramatic features. Great movie. The last, last scene was very sad.. The two little sisters through flashbacks.
Theo Robertson This received its British network television premiere at 3.20 am on Channel 4 . Believe me this is never the sign of a good movie since in the last few weeks we've had to endure garbage like THIS FILTHY EARTH and DEAD BABIES also being given their premieres at an ungodly hour and boy did they deserve not to be seen I have to admit I made a point of watching THE INVISIBLE CIRCUS since it featured Christopher Eccleston , an actor I've admired since his debut in LET HIM HAVE IT ( Hands up who'd be watching the new series of DOCTOR WHO if it starred a children's television presenter instead of a serious actor ? ) but from the opening sequence of Cameron Diaz dancing in slow motion I was convinced I was going to be watching another piece of pretentious art house crap and as soon as I heard Phoebe's voice over I was having reservations about the movie . Bare in mind I was watching this about 3.30 am which is far too late to be staying up even if you're singleThe worst part of this movie is the start since it's rather sentimental and 60s agitpop man . Phoebe's father dies and her elder sister Faith leaves the house to go to Europe with her lefty hippy friends . Faith dies and a few years later Phoebe travels to Europe to find out what happened to her sister . The story then picks up as it turns out Faith joined the German Red Army Faction and after committing a bombing that killed a young father she commits suicide by jumping off a cliff in Portugal Yeah okay the plot featuring Faith becoming a commie terrorist is very unlikely but despite this it's acted well enough for the audience to be taken in if not totally convinced . But I don't want to give the impression that THE INVISIBLE CIRCUS is a kind of political Euro thriller in the vein of RONIN or YEAR OF THE GUN because that's not what the movie is about , what it's about is guilt and redemption and just about succeeds on this level . It's beautifully acted by the cast but Eccleston is always good while Cameron Diaz is a revelation and makes me wonder what she's doing making crap like CHARLIES ANGELS ?And as a footnote Eccleston's character is called Wolf . It's strange because in the current series of DOCTOR WHO there's numerous references to " Bad Wolf " and one can't help thinking that since Russell T Davies is a self conscious post modernist writer this might have something to do with Eccleston's role in this movie . We shall see
leonardozeligbrazil I won't lie to you guys but this movie it's boring and dull. The plot is empty and there isn't even what I call `story'.A piece of trash is a good word. The only thing that matters is the younger and talented Jordana Brewster which I like very much. She's in somehow brazilian cos' she lived in Rio de Janeiro for a long time. And she's my hope to bring the fame to Brazil that we have a lot of talents here.Could open many doors to the artist in Brazil.I really like her ,not only because she's from my country. She made a fine job in this picture and I believe that she'll grown professionaly in the future. But let's talk about the boring Circus. The story could be written by a 10 years old boy. It's very senseless and without connection with the things.Everything is twrown to the viewer and he must understand those crazy facts in the plot.Cameron Diaz commits suicide and hurting a lot her younger sister played by Brewster. So when she turns 18 she decides to do the journey that her sister made before diying(?!).Why would she do something like that?If you knew that somebody die you would understand!Hurts! But what can you do?She thinks that discovering facts of her sister would bring her back? And what is the connection with the title and the story? And why such good artists played in this drama? The end is cruel to the cinema history. And Adam Brooks had a terrible idea to develop this project that maybe only works on the book, which the movie was adapted. It's a story for crazy people!Don't watch! It's too bad!... I could give millions of bad words to describe the piece of trash that this movie is!Two thumbs down!
