Reviews

Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
jnh3 "Land of the College Prophets" utilizes its low budget to good effect. The saga-engrossed characters meet challenges and villains all against the constant backdrop of today's mundane culture. The College Prophets are really about imagination striking out in the middle of Coca Cola land. Their parallel universe occasionally collides with the mundane and usually the mundane loses. Mike Aransky, Phillip Guerette and Thomas Edward Seymour are to be thanked for their robust homage to every great saga comic we've seen. Watch for Russ Russo too in a standout as Jonah Joe, a purist in the world of fighting. All in all, it's an exploration of point-of-view, exclusively from inside the saga. All the rules of the world don't work anymore, only the dark laws of the land of the College Prophets. John Huff
trancejeremy This is one of those movies that looks promising. But it really lets that promise down. It's neither good or bad good (in the campy sense), merely very very boring. And that's how a film really fails. The apparent aim was to make a campy sort of movie - you have a cast of ridiculous characters seemingly out of various animated comedies like Sealab, King of the Hill and possibly South Park. You have one bald guy who likes to dress like a priest, another guy who wears army fatigues (and looks like the guy who mutters from King of the Hill), a goofy Science Teacher, another bald guy who wears a deck of cards on his arm.The trouble is, none of the concepts really works. All of the actors play their roles too tightly, and it comes off as more pretentious than anything else. The only exception would be the campus cop leader. The plot apparently revolves around a romantic dispute over a guy in drag. This was when I started putting the DVD player on "x4". Nothing much happens, but near the end we get sort of a surreal sort of fight with a guy painted blue and wearing a helmet and everyone else.
tom-1559 What can you say but that these guys obviously tried very hard. It's not a perfect film but it's a pretty good. The fight scenes are tight the image quality is beautiful and the sound design is spot on. It is a cult film so it is possible that you could hate it. To each his own but I have to say if you rented The Land of College Prophets looking for Forrest Gump than you're in for a disappointment. If you're looking for a cult film like Bad Taste then you'll have a ball! It's not like these guys are the next Sam Raimis but they could be the next John Carpenters. The film is well acted and Earnest and that goes a long way.
dela5021 This film is amazing. Somehow these guys made a comic-book film epic on an independent level. It's like Sin City's little brother but set in a seemingly alternate present where people beat each other up and giant wishing wells come alive and eat people. The film speeds along at a ridiculous pace introducing eight or so character that look as if they came right from some messed up Lovecraftian fantasy camp. There's an Irish thug, a hundred year old Ex-Nazi, punk-ed out priest, a jar head, a bad ass Zen master and the list goes on and on. The characters are dark, cool, violent and funny. You want to hate them but you feel for them too. The fight scenes are great. Lot's of gore lots of jokes. This film has got to be the next Army of darkness
