shanikayrs I given the movie a 7 stars but after reading the reviews of rotten tomatoes ( where mentioned the movie as a sappy ) given another extra star and make rating 8 stars. I we all can be Leigh, Jason , Mel more or less anyone this movie. This is what the life is about. Well crafted created imaginations are great, Closed shaved nuance of real life are great as much as same.I think all the versatile movie movie critics out there should humble enough to see this. Almost all the main characters in the movie are troubled, so the movie line it self daunting, but if you can go along the life like this you obviously can go along in the movie and fall in love with that. Finally - The Lifeguard is a great movie with strong direction and cast.Love it !

vchimpanzee Leigh is about to turn 30 and while she wants to be a respected journalist in the big city, no one seems to care about her story about a mistreated tiger who died. She needs to return to her parents' home in the small town she once called home.Her parents welcome her, and Leigh gets a job as a lifeguard for the summer. She meets "Little Jason", who is not little, but is the son of her boss Big Jason. We'll just call him Jason.Leigh meets up with old friends Mel, the high school vice-principal, and Todd, who works in a museum. They have a good time together, even though Mel is trying to get pregnant and shouldn't be drinking or smoking weed.Jason and his friends are losers and want out of this loser town. Meanwhile, they ask the adults to buy them beer. Instead, they try to convince the guys they are not losers. They do seem to get through to Jason. Leigh and Jason develop a special relationship. Maybe too special.Meanwhile, Mel's life is falling apart.So will Leigh go back to her real job? Because life in a small town isn't quite what she hoped it would be. Her parents aren't quite what she was hoping for.This isn't really my kind of movie, but the biggest incentive was Kristen Bell in a swimsuit. Actually, she is usually wearing more than that. But she still looks good, and has an appealing personality. She does a really good job with the role. Although Leigh can be irresponsible at times, she also shows maturity and responsibility in other situations.David Lambert also does a capable job and Jason is likable most of the time.Mamie Gummer was familiar and comfortable for some reason. I finally realized who she was when I saw the credits. I know her as a funny and quirky doctor on TV, but she was rarely funny here. In fact, she was quite depressing, but this probably means she did a good job. She just didn't appeal to me. The whole movie was quite depressing, but that works for some people. There was some comedy, just not enough. And then there's that depressing music, which young women seem to like. Also some upbeat, positive music, which didn't work for me.I think there were positive qualities to this movie. They were just positive for other people, not me.

SnoopyStyle Leigh London (Kristen Bell) is 29 and ten months old. She's a reporter in NYC. She feels lost and moves back in with her parents (Amy Madigan). She reconnects with her school friends Mel (Mamie Gummer) and Todd (Martin Starr). Mel is the high school vice-principal and struggling to get pregnant. Todd is still in the closet. Leigh gets her old lifeguard job at the pool. She befriends pool maintenance guy's teenage son Little Jason (David Lambert) and they become more.I really love Mamie Gummer and her struggles. I like Martin Starr also and his story could be expanded. Kristen Bell's story is probably the least interesting of the three. I still like her but it's not like she's having a grand romance. It would be better to have more time with Gummer and Starr. It takes too long having sexy time with Bell and Lambert. I didn't think it was that type of movie. There is also the character Matt. He is a big part of the ending. He should have been a much bigger part of the story. The movie should spends more time with him than the little section with Todd. He should be a bigger character. Both Matt and Little Jason are not particularly compelling. I love the three main actors but this isn't quite special enough.

toddxdavis The good news is this film cannot be placed in one of the common genres. The directing was good, the scenes gave depth such as the vacant pool shot from a low height and the close ups of the characters inspired an emotional response. The acting seemed appropriate to the story, the story did not connect with me so the acting seemed just adequate and not great by any of the charactersI saw several previous films combined in The Lifeguard. Summer of 42 for the coming of age element. The Year of Living Dangerously for tiger in the apartment. And her bus trip to and from NYC was reminiscent of many 'you can't go back' movies. Her parents reminded me of the televangelist fans in Repo Man. Overall I usually defend Kristen Bell and her acting was okay but was this the right movie for her?
