A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

Decided to write a review after seeing all three films today. Quite happy with the first one after seeing the other "masterpieces". This film definitely had it all, people killing for no reason, evil triumphing over good, the true love that the mummy has being not developed properly (at least until the second film).
The acting is as you would expect, which means that it was bad.
The story is as comical as any.
The inability to harm the major characters fits with the culture. In conclusion, if you go into this expecting anything other than some good cinematography, you are an idiot.
If you enjoyed it, don't watch the next two films. Be happy that you saw the best in the series and end it there.
If you can turn off your brain for a while, this might be fun. On the other hand, YouTube has tons of conspiracy theory videos on ancient Egypt, which might be better.

I like it when the Universal relaunched the franchise "The Mummy" is a 1999 American action fantasy film which was written and directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Kevin J. O'Connor, with Arnold Vosloo in the titular role as the reanimated mummy. It is a loose remake of the 1932 film The Mummy, which starred Boris Karloff in the titular role. The film follows adventurer Rick O'Connell, who travels to Hamunaptra, the city of the dead, with an archaelogist and her brother. There they accidentally awaken Imhotep, a high priest from the reign of the pharaoh Seti I, who has been cursed for eternity.Filming began in Marrakech, Morocco, on May 4, 1998, and lasted seventeen weeks; the crew had to endure dehydration, sandstorms, and snakes while filming in the Sahara. The visual effects were provided by Industrial Light & Magic, who blended film and computer-generated imagery to create the titular Mummy. Jerry Goldsmith provided the orchestral score. The Mummy opened on May 7, 1999, and grossed $43 million in 3,210 theaters during its opening weekend in the United States; a surprise hit, the film went on to gross $416 million worldwide. The box-office success led to a 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, as well as The Mummy: The Animated Series, and the prequel/spin-off film The Scorpion King. Seven years later, the third installment, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, opened on August 1, 2008. Universal Pictures also opened a roller coaster, Revenge of the Mummy, in 2004. Novelizations of the film and its sequels were written by Max Allan Collins.

Recently, The new movie of Tom Cruise -- The Mummy (2017) has shown in cinema. As the new start of the old series, it brings limited feeling of freshness, compared with The Mummy (1999). When I was a child, The Mummy (1999) became a nightmare of me. After watching the new movie of Tom Cruise, I really think the old one is much better than the new one. This film is very predictable in the manner in which it is carried out. The formula of hero saves the girl, hero kills the villain, and hero saves the planet is tired and old, but it will be the addition of humor, special effects, and Fraser as a brilliant action hero that will carry this movie for most viewers.
