GurlyIamBeach Instant Favorite.
Nessieldwi Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
Lachlan Coulson This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
Payno I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
c-e-lavin82 My 6 year old daughter loved it and asked for it on again straight away so it's done it's just. I found the rat bit a bit boring
Eric Stevenson It's the little things that make this movie so bad. I've seen a lot of Nutcracker movies, especially now for Christmas Month and honestly. I think Care Bears did it best. The rating's pretty high there! This movie is notorious for its ugly looking CGI. The worst part is seeing those rats with human faces. That seriously drove me nuts. Speaking of nuts, there's even a crotch joke in this movie. This movie just makes no sense. There's one scene where the Queen Rat strengthens her powers by drinking this juice causing the nutcracker prince to turn back into a toy. What does that have to do with anything? There's obvious Nazi analogies and it's way out of place for a kid's movie not to mention one taking places before Nazis even existed. The Rat King looks hideous with his teeth. That scares me as an adult! The nutcracker has this really bad voice and for some reason jumping on a pillow grows him to human size. The characters are especially annoying. There's this one kid who betrays his sister for absolutely no reason. I think it may have been influenced by the Narnia movie that came out at this time. The toys look awful with their CGI, especially the dancing ones. It's a terrible Christmas movie and terrible movie in general. *
susansolly This film has received some negative reviews but in comparison with many of the Christmas offerings which offer schmaltzy sentimental rubbish this has some drama and tight spots and you are drawn into the action. The nut cracker when returned to life lacks charisma which the toy seems to have through only the voice. The contrast between Mary and her brother Max is nicely realised.Of course there is a sense of history and some scenes are reminiscent of the book burning under the Nazis and the dating of the plot as the 1920 can tend to emphasis this. The special effects are good and the rat faces well made
MockeryD Okay, I'm all for taking a classic tale and retelling it. It has been done extremely well (e.g O Brother Where Art Thou) and Disney has made millions on taking classic tales and giving them a different spin. Then you have the Nutcracker in 3D.I'm not sure where this idea came from. The original story seems to be glossed over completely. Yes, there is a Nutcracker in the story but he isn't really much of a hero. It's not that this idea couldn't have been done will but it gets bogged down with some much uselessness.First, Albert Einstein is in this movie. Yeah, that makes sense! Kids love German-born theoretical physicists! Then, we get the beautiful Nutcracker music that is given extremely awful lyrics. Add some racist caricatures, a heavyset character that is only there for fat shaming, Nazi rats (not joking) and loads of plot points that go nowhere. Now this is suppose to be a kids movie right? Well I don't know about you but I wouldn't show this too kids. In fact, I wouldn't show this too anyone. It's way to dark and terrifying for kids to enjoy while it also too nonsensical and pointless for adults. Maybe if they had tried to do an original story inside of tacking on the Nutcracker characters, it could have been somewhat decent. So in short, skip this CGI, surrealist nightmare.
