Hellen I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much
Ehirerapp Waste of time
Kidskycom It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
chaswe-28402 Walter Fane decides to punish his wife, Kitty, for having married him. Marry in haste, repent at leisure, as a wise man once said. A woman, who could well have been a contemporary of Kitty Fane, once told me that Somerset Maugham had a better understanding of the differences between male and female mentality than any other writer she had ever read. Whether this had anything to do with his homosexuality I really couldn't say, but it struck me as an unusually interesting observation. The portrayal of both sides of the Fane couple in this film impressed me as exceptional. This was not only due to the writing but to the superlative performances and direction. Both parties, as well as Waddington, gave immensely nuanced turns. I knew couples exactly like this, but somehow their depiction here gave me a deeper insight into the nature of their relationship than even the reality. Astonishingly, Norton impressed as more English than the English. The setting in the China of the 1920s and '30s was also remarkably fine. Checking out this production on Wikipedia, I was taken aback by the lukewarm reception it had been given on its release by critics in America, in the New York and Los Angeles Times newspapers, and Variety. The extraordinary effort that had clearly been put into its production had apparently gone unrecognized. The reviews seem uniformly obtuse. There must be a culture and generation gap here. For Englishmen of a certain age and background the film is an achievement of pinpoint accuracy, and devastating irony. Perhaps there's something uniquely British about it, in spite of Norton being American. A deep-rooted appreciation of the emotional isolation of colonial life, its exile and sacrifices.
beresfordjd We found a DVD in our holiday apartment and decided to watch it one evening. Edward Norton , Naomi Watts and Toby Jones are just marvellous in this period piece. It is set in China and is exquisitely shot bringing to life the landscape as we see in old prints and the like. It is delightful and harrowing by turns and it makes the viewer become involved in the main characters lives in a way that few films manage. It is a film about a passionate love, infidelity, forgiveness and reconciliation set against a virulent cholera epidemic. The premise does not sound promising but The Painted Veil delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended.
nox09 Handsomely crafted, with good performances this movie is a gem for romantic drama lovers . characters are complex , environment is beautiful and the music is just amazing ( Alexander Desplat won Golden globe for it ) . the few problems i have with the movie is that it plays a little monotone and the Kitty's character falling in love after all what happened felt a little too easy too simple . characters definitely had potential to show more depth . Love how they handled the love story in the movie , in the beginning Walter falls in love with Kitty but it does not work since she is not in love with him and ends up with affair on the side . during the movie they get to know each other with all their problems , weaknesses and nature and the feelings start to come . the movie shows that you can't truly love someone you don't know . one of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Walter was watching Kitty playing piano and falling in love with her but this time he knows what he loves her for . The Story is happening during a cholera epidemic which makes it story more interesting to watch and gives good side plot to the movie . overall the story is predictable but the result is more than satisfying .
Red_Identity One of the most consistently great and super watchable screen actresses of the moment is Naomi Watts, never having seen her in a bad film (yes, I've purposely avoided watching Diana). this film is rather elegant all around, and thankfully, it actually doesn't feel as stuffy as so many period pieces do. It is, however, sort of lacking in a really strong and interesting thematic conflict and characters. Norton does great work along with Watts, but it's all a bit, I don't know, superfluous. That's not necessarily a horrible criticism, but it does prevent it from true greatness. I enjoyed it though, and while I don't think it's a great film, it's an easily watchable and accessible one, sure to be loved by those who do love these sort of things.
