Btexxamar I like Black Panther, but I didn't like this movie.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
ianlouisiana Workaholic journeyman Alan Dwan knocks out another instantly forgettable piece of nonsense on time and probably under budget. It's a typical mid - fifties quickie with Debra Paget cast in a "sweater girl" type role as the wife of a dirt poor farmer(Anthony Quinn). Her ex is murdering thief Ray Milland trying but failing dismally to give his role some authority. Forcing Quinn to take him and Miss Paget across the border with a suitcase of ill -gotten gains,he might resemble John Wayne in long shot but there, unfortunately, the resemblance ends. The colour is garish, the plot silly, the acting - apart from a moment or two of presumably accidental near competence by Mr Quinn - appalling. Mr Dwan, whose longevity in movies was truly astonishing and for that reason if no other deserves our respect(definitely no other, actually), no doubt quickly moved on to whatever the studio handed him next and forgot about "The River's Edge" in very short order.I can only recommend that you do the the same.
Martin Bradley A first class B movie from the redoubtable Allan Dwan who, over the years, became something of an expert in making silk purses out of sow's ears. Not that this resembles anything like a sow's ear. It's got a decent script and good performances from Ray Milland as the cold-hearted killer trying to get across the border into Mexico with a suitcase full of money and Anthony Quinn as the farmer who is taking him there. What gives the film its kick is that none of it's three protagonists, (the third, Debra Paget, is the farmer's wife who happens to be the killer's former partner), is particularly noble, (indeed all display varying degrees of rottenness), and all are psychologically very well drawn. It's also very handsomely shot in wide-screen and combines studio and location work to good effect.
telegonus Those who think of Ray Milland as a skilled light comedian or an amiable drunk will be surprised by his work in this late Allan Dwan entry. He's mean as can be in this one, and the best thing in the movie, making Anthony Quinn look weak by comparison; not an easy thing to do, but Ray pulls it off with style. Debra Paget is an asset as well in this trim, modest film.
Colorada-3 Quite entertaining, good characters, a nice movie to watch when you want to relax. Anthony Quinn is very sexy and Ray Milland a good villain. Don't miss it!
