I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

This film was different than anything I've ever seen, for the most part. Was it amazing? No, but it was original and it worked which is hard to pull off. It didn't come off as overdone or too out there, the film did what it what it was meant to do and the concept was portrayed successfully. That aside, the story was lacking and unsatisfying just like the ending. I would say this films strengths reside in the shots and the ideas, and it makes it worth watching and recommending. The blending of real life and stop motion in the dream world was great. That was the most intriguing things that the science of sleep pulled off. Good movie with a bland story.

If I could I would sum up this film in three words bizarre, unconventional and idiosyncratic. Yet I wouldn't expect anything less from a film solely focused around sleep, it also really embraced the idea that life isn't perfect but weird, not what you see in the typical films. The best part about this film for me had to be that you have to keep on guessing whether the scene was taking place in Stéphane's dream or reality. This I think compensated for the lack of plot.Yet, the character development was almost no existent. I feel like Stéphane remained unchanged by the end of the film. Also I found it extremely difficult to relate to the characters which made it that much harder to get into. But the acting made up for it. I loved how the actors were so awkward especially in the scenes between Gael García Bernal (Stéphane) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Stéphanie) because you could really feel the tension between them. The special effects were creative and added to the quirky atmosphere of the film. The use of colour and movement of the splatter paint in both the intro scene and the "I don't wanna be spaghetti" scene were enhanced by the splatter paint. Also the stop motion was used quite a bit. My favorite that they used stop motion in was in the scene when the tap turned on and the blue wrappers were used as water, it was simple but effective. Finally I found that the most interested effect used was the green screen specifically in the scene when Stéphane was flying through the city. Overall I loved how they captured Stéphane's dream in this film. I only wish I had watched it all in one go so I could have gotten immersed into the story.

The science of sleep is an interesting movie to say the least. Mixing dream with reality, the story pulls us into the head of Stéphane as he journeys through a relationship with Stéphanie. This film has many creative shots. It includes stop motion in many parts which makes the scenes pop. The film, at times, captures the audiences emotions. The quirky and awkward style of the movie brought humour and uniqueness to the table. Its been a while since I've seen a movie in this style and it was a nice change from the everyday violent films. But in no way a replacement. To conclude, I enjoyed this film and would recommend it. Some people may find it boring, but for those with an open mind, The Science of Sleep is for you.

This film is not bad, for me. Actually, this film is a bit interesting. But you shouldn't watch this film with your boyfriend or girlfriend because this film is french film. This film is very enjoyable for me but it is very fragmented. Stephane entranced in his dreams and he didn't understood that he was in dream or he was in real life. In fact, I and my friend didn't understood that:)) At the end of the film, Stéphane and Stéphanie were very happy and this is very important to me. And I want to say that Stéphane's inventions was very great. He invented a time machine for Stéphanie. I am supporting their love. Congratulations to filmmakers.
