Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

Six stereo typical students (stoner, jock, nerd, slut & token black guy) are hired by a sleazy business man to renovate a dilapidated old house. Along the way an Evil Dead type book of incantations is discovered, with predictable results. The opening scene features a group of hot, naked witches performing a bloody, occult ritual. It does slow right down after that for the next half hour or so, but once the cast start getting killed in elaborate & gory ways the film picks up nicely. It also turns into a comedy, with mixed results. It is a very cheap looking movie, with wooden acting & at times poor sound, but despite an unfavourable first half (it was heading for a 3/10 score) it quickly became quite entertaining.

Six college students get a job cleaning up a rundown old abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. The group find themselves in considerable jeopardy after they stumble across an ancient spell book and accidentally awaken a bloodthirsty she demon (Adriana Mejia in gnarly make-up) from its many decades of slumber so it can wreak havoc on the living.Writer/director Jay Lee delivers a satisfying smattering of tasty gratuitous female nudity, a smidgen of strenuous sex, oodles of tacky, yet grisly in-your-face splatter, and an amusing sense of sharp'n'sarcastic humor to ensure that this blithely inane opus remains enjoyable from start to finish. Moreover, the silly and derivative story not only happily rips off everything from "The Evil Dead" to "Night of the Demons," but also is rife with such howlers as a nude distaff spirit who's clearly wearing panties in a few shots and the uproarious fact that the so-called clean-up crew are never seen picking up a single broom or dust rag in order to do the work that they were hired to do. The acceptable acting from the competent no-name cast further keeps this picture on track: Jessica Custodio as the sassy Dana, Zack Kilberg as the likable Iggy, Terry Eriosky as irritating brainiac jerk Tyler, Billy Beck as zonked-out pothead Razz, Laura Bach as saucy tease Heather, Travis Wood as obnoxious and abrasive toolbag Brandon, Jen Alex as the bitchy Alexandra, and Brad Milne as overbearing jerk new owner Carl Stevens. The (not so) special effects are decidedly shoddy, yet still funky just the same. Both Lee's slick'n'stylish cinematography and Chauncey Mahan's shuddery ooga-booga score are up to speed. Fun trash.

Practise makes perfect, or so they say.Two years before combining tits and zombies for his enjoyably silly comedy/horror Zombie Strippers, director Jay Lee practised his technique on straight-to-DVD splatter-fest The Slaughter. With basic plot elements borrowed from The Evil Dead and Night of the Demons, Lee's first attempt at trashy T&A terror isn't exactly original, and suffers badly from budgetary limitations that result in iffy CGI, terrible sound (on my DVD, at least), cheap editing effects and generally poor production values. Fortunately, the graphic gore and gratuitous nudity go a long way to help matters, making this a fairly entertaining ride despite its technical flaws. The film starts with a trashy credits sequence featuring several topless hotties getting drenched with blood as they perform a ceremony to summon a she-demon, which they intend to control for their own nefarious uses. Of course their plans go tits-up, they wind up dead, and the demon, trapped between dimensions, opts to lay dormant until she is able to put into motion the wheels that will enable her to break free and finally rule our world (or something like that!).This opportunity arises 60 years later, when a house is built upon the land where the demon lurks: the evil being is able to commence the ritual that will release her from her inter-dimensional prison by killing a child. However, this action results in the house being unoccupied for decades, and the creature is unable to continueat least, that is, until a money-hungry businessman purchases the property for redevelopment. He hires a team of students to clean up the place before putting it back on the market, and once again provides the monster with everything she needs to complete her plan...ie., good-looking victims with high sex-drives!After the impressively sleazy opening, I found The Slaughter to be incredibly dull for at least half an hour, and even contemplated switching the film off; I am, however, made of sterner stuff than that, and soldiered on to the end. And I'm glad I did, for things eventually get a lot better: the gore gets gorier, the nudity gets more 'nudie', and there's even a good jump-scare or two to keep viewers on their toes.Fans of splatter, in particular, are advised to continue watching (either that, or fast-forward!): eventually, we are treated to some great (and some not-so-great) effects, including a nasty broken leg, some gut-puking, face removal via flying brick, a squished head, throat slashing, decapitation, and dismemberment. Some of these moments are admittedly achieved through the use of some pretty dire digital trickery, but on the whole, it's impressive stuff. The film's fun finalé sees the demon's victims rising from the dead to try and kill the remaining two survivors, a set-up which allows for some amusing banter about how to despatch a zombie, and even more mindless violence. Not quite as good as Zombie Strippers, but an admirable effort nonetheless, The Slaughter is recommended to those who like their movies cheap, bloody and loaded withyes, you guessed ittits and zombies!

From the beginning of the film, I knew that I wasn't going to enjoy this meagre attempt at horror. Filled with over the top scripting and unbelievably cringe-worthy special effects, the film was hard to watch, but being a Friday night with nothing else on television I decided to give it a go and to see whether it was any better further on through the film. IT wasn't! The acting was terrible, there wasn't one person who I recognised, but this would have been okay if they had have been convincing as their characters. I wasn't bothered when they were picked off one by one, I spent the 'scary' scenes noting what was wrong with it.....'certainly one stone a few planks of wood wouldn't strip the skin off his face'......'that girl drowned quite quickly' and 'why would that guy spit up his intestines' There was no consistency....and no major love for the plot. Luckily this film was watched online so I didn't waste any money on this heap of tripe.
