Synopsis

March 1965. In the heat of the Cold War, the USA and the USSR are competing for supremacy in space. What both superpowers aim for in this race, is to be the first to have a man walk in outer space. To accomplish that, no price is too high and no risk is too great. Now it’s up to the unlikely duo of a seasoned war veteran and a hot-headed test-pilot to fulfill this mission. Two men in a tiny spaceship, without proper testing, facing the complete unknown. They were supposed to do what no man has done before—and no man imagined what would happen next.

shakercoola The story of Voskhod 2, the Soviet manned mission into space, hoping to achieve another milestone in exploration - the first man to 'spacewalk'. It is set against the backdrop of the space race. A film of superb cinematography, thrills and suspense.
Ivan Lalic Space exploration in the USSR is one of the major topics in modern day Russian cinematography these days and one of those fascinating stories is the one about the first exit into the open space by Alexei Leonov, but also the chaos that followed their return to Earth and the battle to rescue them from ice storm in the desolated area of the country they landed. However, all the unbelievable elements were not always collected and arranged together by the script, so there is a overall sense of a pathetic and over the top subplots all through the entire curse of the movie. ''Spacewalk'' has an interesting subject, but also an unstable script as well.
frater I liked watching this movie maybe even more than watching "The Right Stuff". Probably because it tells the story of the Sovjet efforts of the space race. Throughout the movie I couldn't help thinking it was an American movie as there was a continuous criticism towards the Sovjet era. Some can be explained by the changed political system, but still.... And is it so much different now? Maybe it just proves that we were always right when trying to imagine how life was there. Or the film is just intended to be watched by the Western world and they like to confirm many of the clichés.But I'm glad this film is made. A lot of movies are made on the American efforts when in fact the Sovjets won all battles except the ultimate one (putting a man on the moon). Interesting too how both sides solved the problems in different ways. All top German scientists fled to the US and still the Russians were able to win the most battles.
