Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
david-davies84 So you're there on a Saturday afternoon after a long week in work and you're think about a great film to watch tonight with a nice bottle of wine and a Take-Away. This is not it. Save it for that "don't have to concentrate" film you watch on a Sunday night to forget you have work the next day.Denzel Washington is pretty safe in this as he always is. John Travolta however, terrible.I loved Travolta in Swordfish, I thought he played the bad guy quite well in that. He just doesn't seem to suit the big tough guy role.
Floated2 The Taking of Pelham 123 is an enjoyable and fun thrilling heist thriller. It'snot so much a mindless action film as some may consider, but it does the job what audiences are looking for. Lead by strong performances from Denzel Washington and John Travolta, this train terrorism film clicks on all angles when we see the characters portraying and sparking back to one another. Although the ending may be predictable, the journey and overall suspense and thrills of the film is reason why this film works and is entertaining. The other reason is the chemistry of Washington and Travolta. The sci-fi and overall action in this film is greatly directed by Tony Scott. Surprised by a few laughs (many of which by John Travolta), this film is all around enjoyable and recommend for fans of thrilling action heist films.
Mihai Toma A recently demoted employee of the New York subway, by the name of Walter, now a dispatcher, is about to face the biggest challenge of his life when a train gets hijacked by a group of armed men who demand ransom for their prisoners in a very short time. Keeping close contact with their leader, Walter will be forced to do a lot more than to try to overcome his situation and negotiate, getting engaged in a psychological game which sooner or later reaches his personal life. The whole crime will soon prove to be more elaborate than everyone could have ever imagined, the accomplices seeming to have planned almost every single detain in advance. It's a gorgeous thriller, which puts face to face two excellent actors which manage to create a very tense and suspenseful atmosphere which keeps you eager to find out how it is all going to end. Their characters are very well written and presented, contributing decisively to the final quality of the movie, especially Walter's, who is about to have a great evolution, overcoming his fears and even confessing a past mistake he has made. It's how a movie of this type should be done and I cannot encourage everybody enough to see it, especially genre lovers.
Lola A I was looking forward to this movie for a very long time now and I must say that it was a bit disappointing. The story line is very predictable. One could tell from the beginning that Walter Garber will be the big great hero at the end of the movie. Ryder's character starts to develop in the beginning in the right direction and makes you curious about his reasons for doing what he was doing. It leaves the impression that maybe something personal and emotional, a wrong doing or an injustice has led him to respond in this wrong way. But, in the end the character development takes a complete disappointing turn. Ryder was doing all this because of money. So, overall the very end of the movie can be anticipated. Even the fact that Ryder's plan A will fail and a plan B is needed, is also what one would expect from movies like this. In terms of the message that the movie was trying to convey, I must say that all it got to me was that in the end the bad boys always lose.
