Organnall Too much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,
Peereddi I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
sydksu Very dark film. Not for everyone. It is in my opinion very realistic. Not much action, but enough to keep you on edge. I can't really think of movies similar to this. Most other movies have huge disastrous events, like hurricanes, giant tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. And the characters are always trying to figure out how to stop it. SPOILER:In this movie, the end is inevitable, which leaves with a void you can feel.
Hajimoto0625 I was a little skeptical about this movie going in, but since I am becoming a growing fan of Australian films these days, and because I just can't ever resist Jessica De Gouw, I thought I'd give it a shot. And I was handsomely rewarded! The story starts with an oncoming asteroid/comet/fireball that is due to hit and obliterate Earth, and the accompanying countdown to the end of life as we know it. All of humanity is aware it is coming, and there is nothing that can be done about it. James (Nathan Phillips) is leaving Zoe (Jessica De Gouw) in bed (idiot!) to travel accross town to attend the party to end all parties. This begins a tale which is sometimes touching, sometimes crazy, and sometimes terrifying. The imagery is beautiful throughout, and the film offers a unique vision of how humanity would spend it's last 12 hours on Earth, culminating nicely with a very tender and loving moment between Phillips and DeGouw. This is a good film...it keeps you focused the entire time, and sews itself up nicely in the end, which to me, is the sign of good storytelling.Special shoutout to Angourie Rice, who does a great job of playing a little girl who is simply trying to find her father, and in the end helps James come to his senses and return to Zoe.Another great job by the Australian film industry!
MinistryofDoom Meet James. He's an immature guy living his life from one bottle to the next. He's a terrible boyfriend and a cheat. His relationship with his mother is nonexistent. He's a terrible friend. He's an alcoholic and full of aggression and rage and just doesn't care about anyone or anything....until he meets Rose, an innocent little girl looking for her father, on this day, the last day before the end of the world. It might not seem like much, but this is a touching heartfelt story of redemption. It raises the questions: Is it too late to change? Is it too late to realise your mistakes and atone for them? What starts off slow pays off if you stick with it. As you progress through the journey with James and Rose, you'll find yourself caring more and more about them. The climax is worth it and if you don't shed a tear, you'd hardly be human. This is without a doubt one of the best hidden gems I have ever seen. Truly a magnificent experience on a limited budget, but so much more. It's a story that will leave a lasting impression and cause you to look inside yourself. Are you living as well as you could be? What if you didn't have time to correct your sins?Do yourself a favor and see it. I promise that you won't regret it.
herpetologistkevin I've skipped over this for weeks on Netflix but tonight I decided to watch it. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I felt the atmosphere was good throughout most of the movie. A good mixture of the extremes and moderation you might find in this kind of situation. The cinematography was good with interesting tones for the sky and most scenes. What I liked were the bits and pieces unexplained like what had happened to the father? What happened to that large family group in the end? If it was by agreement then why the haphazard positions of the bodies? What hit the earth? Why was there such a break in James' family? Pieces we likely didn't need but we wonder about. What was lacking to me was the sense of distance. I don't know Perth or the places being mentioned but you have the feeling that there are long drives everywhere. Yet by the end of the movie you feel the first girlfriend sea side cottage, James' sister's house, his mother's, the party and Rose's aunt's are all not that far apart. Yet we seem to be spending much too much time in vehicles.Overall it was worth watching. Always nice to see a movie set somewhere you don't know and with actors you don't recognize. Overall the acting was good including the actress who played Rose - except she needs to practice her crying. No sappy ending.
