SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

The acting/movie was good, but are we really supposed to believe lily wanted to murder her step dad for the only apparent reason that he's a douche??

I'll keep this review short as many others have already explained the film. Overall, this is a slow moving film that doesn't really go anywhere. The trailer makes the film look like a comedy which is why I chose it. However, the film seems more about teen depression. I loved the way the film started, it's straight in and we're off. It was going well up until they met Anton Yelchin and then the film slowed down and didn't really go anywhere after that. In someways you can blame the trailer for that. I was expecting a sassy murder comedy but got a much darker, slower moving film. I quite liked it's but I feel it just missing something. Anyway, overall a 6/10 for me.

My wife and I watched this at home on DVD from our public library. Both young actresses are in good form, they make the movie good. The title may come from the fact that one of the girls had horses in her upbringing, but it could as easily refer to the two girls and their status in life.British actress Olivia Cooke is Amanda, smart but often detached, she has a disorder which prevents her from having normal feelings, fear, remorse, empathy, etc. She reconnects with her old friend who was going to a private school, American actress Anya Taylor-Joy as Lily, when Amanda's mother hires Lily to tutor Amanda. Then Lily's problems start to surface, she is not what she appears, she has difficulty dealing with expectations placed on her, and seems to loathe her stepfather who likes to have everything under control. The other key character is played by Anton Yelchin, who suffered an untimely death in 2016, as small-time 27-yr-old drug dealer Tim. Amanda has an idea, why doesn't Lily just kill her stepdad? All of this sets up some funny but dark situations. I enjoyed the movie strictly as a different type of entertainment, my wife no so much so. I suppose it isn't for all tastes.

Cory Finley's 2017 film debut Thoroughbreds its a piece of refined craft and style which manages to merge between thriller and black comedy in a very satisfying way, creating a dark tonal pitch which is played along a smart and kinda sorkinian dialgue who takes us inside the conflicted and dysfunctional mind of its characters. The Style its the Golden Rule
If anything can be said about this movie its probably that it has an amazing amount of style in each one of its elements, starting by the story itself: the tale of a young pair of millennial yuppies who are trying to get rid of a despisable rich man who happens to be the stepfather of one of them. Since the beginning of the movie you can feel that it's going to be a weird but funny journey
Following by the characters: Two young sophisticated ladies both intricately strange, whose own motivation is to get away with their plan no matter what, the both have two particular affected psyches which makes them a hell of a pair.
And finally the aesthethical: the aesthtetic factor is one of the most importants, since the first.shot you can see and hear that wonderful universe of the bourgeoisie, which is filled with flaws under his perfection-like mask. Here is 7 reasons to watch Thoroughbreds:
1. Good Story
2. Neat Cinematography
3. Sardonic Tone
4. Fantastic Costumes
5. Crazy Music
6. Pretty Decent Acting
7. Lots and lots of Style
