Nice effects though.

Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

The novel, written by the brilliant Ted Dekker, had kept me reading from cover to cover. On the other hand, the movie has taken away a lot of what the novel had going for it. The actors did not fit the characters at all, and so much of the story was taken out of it, replaced with details that weren't nearly as good. If you are a fan of the book, the only good thing about the film was the ending (How Sam, Slater and Kevin are all one person). If you watch the movie, not as an adaption, but as a short, fun suspense- thriller, it is an alright flick to watch. But if you're looking for a thorough adaption of the book, just hope that Christopher Nolan has the guts to make an adaption.

I've read reviews about this movie. Many said it sucked. In a way, these reviews were not wrong. They WERE wrong if they meant the acting sucked. They WERE wrong if they said it looked low-budget. They Were wrong if they said the story was horrid. But they were NOT wrong if they said there were too many explosions on account of this being a Hollywood "Faith" Movie. I admit, Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and such give overly suspenseful and rather incredible accounts of moral struggles, but they all make sense in the end. But if you're gonna take an awesome book and throw in a bunch of un-needed explosions, its gonna suck in that aspect. Also, I admit the final revelation in the plot was a bit too abrupt. There was no foreshadowing, making it seem like "What the bloody heck!?!?!" But if you've read the book, it will be just as awesome.

As I have not yet read the original Dekker novel (but, so to say, I am no more interested in it), the movie didn't have expectations to live up to in my eyes. After about a half an hour, my level of interest started to fall, but from a pretty high level as the movie starts out to be quite exciting. I thought then that if nothing original, but I would get a standard "clever killer with ideologies connected to the protagonist's life"-type of suspense thriller. However, all the suspense disappears thanks to the shallow acting and the script that seems to make fun of the genre. The strongest stab in the movie' heart is definitely the completely unoriginal, obsolete "twist", when we learn about Kevin's split personalities. COME ON, have anyone of Hollywood's filmmakers watched the thrillers of the past few years? Identity, Shrooms, High Tension, and so on, a never ending line? The split minded killer ISN'T a great idea, it has been used, and re-used dozens of times. It's getting dumb now instead of being a twist, it only shows that no creativity is left is some of the writers, and if Dekker's original is the same, then in the suspense-authors as well. However, I am pretty sure the lot of people will buy it as an original idea, and I am damn certain that this was the real goal here.

The word that came to mind as the curtain lowered on this opus. Unimaginative and ill-conceived, can we rip off anymore successful horror films please? Pretty please? After the first scene, I initially thought that the film was a parody; akin to the Wayans brothers' Scary Movie series. Boy, I wish that was the case. I kept waiting for the punchline to be delivered, or at least for the movie to be so schlocky that it became a cult-classic. But, this film is actually a serious attempt.. and not bad enough to be good, if that makes any sense. It's that painful kind of bad... the kind that just make you roll your eyes and wish for it to end.Saw rip off: torturing poorly written soliloquies equipped with raspy voice. Shoot reviewer in the head.Yet another multiple personality mindf**k movie (Primal Fear, Identity, fill in the blank): this one is not even close to clever.Characters aren't believable. How can you get involved in a film when you don't even care what happens to the characters. At all. Boo! Earns three stars out of the kindness of heart. Slick production and one or two mildly entertaining scenes saves it from totally blowing.
