BlazeLime Strong and Moving!
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Supelice Dreadfully Boring
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Quentin Givens When my step-dad insisted that I watch this movie, at first I kind of internally groaned. I knew it was a Christian movie, and, while I am a Christian, I also respect a lot of film critics, and something I've definitely noticed a lot is that Christian movies always either tend to be so sheltering that they end up unrealistic, or the director goes off the deep end and it ends up too traumatizing to reach its target audience.I am very satisfied to say that to save a life did neither of those. It's so far the only Christian movie I've seen that actually felt like a professionally done film with a down to earth premise. The story is great, the antagonist is what I consider to be the second best written antagonist in any movie(best written being a tie between Kirie Fujou from "Kara no Kyoukai: Fuukan Fukei" and the Joker from "The Dark Knight"), and it's the best Christian film I've seen. I even consider it to be among my favorite movies in general, though it is very different in tone from what I usually watch. There is one plot point that seems kind of forced, but I'm willing to overlook that, due to this being the first Christian film I've seen that didn't pander to its target demographic or go off of the deep end, and because of my liking for the movie as a whole. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it. It's the best Christian movie available because it's the first one that actually knows how to be a movie, and everyone involved did a great job.
chow913 Cheese With Mold Is A Recipe For Disaster What happens when you mix a bad script with REALLY bad actors and photographers and editors working out of their parents' basement? You get a bad movie! Jake is a poor spoiled rich boy. Captain of the football team, wealthy family, blonde cheerleader lover, etcetera. But Jake has a religious epiphany that there's more to high school life than sex, drugs, and rock and roll, after his token black childhood friend brings a gun to school and commits suicide. The friend was crippled after he pushed Jake out of the path of speeding car. As a result he was mocked and shunned by the whole school. If he'd actually gone postal and killed some bullies along with himself this film MIGHT have been interesting.Jake feels guilty for abandoning his friend and joins a local church youth group and tries to help other shunned kids. Not only is this film predictable and boring but the quality of basic film making makes Coleman Francis look like Orson Wells.SKIP IT!!! If they show this on an airplane, walk out. If they show this at your church convert to another religion. How the hell this is averaging 6.6 stars is beyond me.
Erik Labieniec ***SPOILERS*** OK first and foremost sitting through this movie was the most tedious experience of my life. After the main character Alex's childhood friend commits suicide Alex starts questioning his life decisions, and who he wants to be, whatever I get that, but the way it is done is so cloche that it loses the movies credibility. I mean Alex has to be one of the most unbelievable characters in a movie since mickey Rourke in well any movie. And i don't mean that in a good way like his character consistently drove me away from this film. Finale, what really got me agitated is that i had to watch this movie in school. Can they not see it is a Christian movie, it is not completely in your face but sets the foundation for every scene. The only reason this movie got a 3 and not a 1 is because it is not Titanic: The Legend Goes On.
demobonez I know this movie has religious implies, meaning that like in this film part of what helped Jake Taylor was becoming Christian, but even if you are an Atheist and don't believe in Christianity, I think you will still enjoy it because not only is it strong in the message it carries but also it is inspiring, very touching, and simply realistic with the way many teenagers are treated for being "uncool", and simply standing out from the ordinary. It's wrong. But it still happens. "To Save a Life" shows what can happen if a teenager is bothered so much- suicide for him or her, guilt and sadness for the people still standing in this world. If you have a teen son/daughter, teen friend or know any teen- show them this film. It is something they should see.
