Steinesongo Too many fans seem to be blown away
Benas Mcloughlin Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
Delight Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
grantss Reasonably intriguing and semi-original initially, but soon becomes a fairly standard action-horror movie.
GL84 Crashing in the Brazilian jungle, a group of tourists stranded in the jungle finds their helpful guide part of an illegal group harvesting organs on the black market and tries to get away before becoming the next participants.Overall this was a pretty disappointing effort without too many positive points. What really hurts this one is the fact that there's just nothing happening here for such a long period of time that it's really troubling for the most part. While it's nice to have the crash that strands the group being so early in here, there's still a ton of time spent here waiting around trying to decide to do something, followed up by a rather lengthy hike through the jungle where all they do is simply complain about the backwards customs in the country or try to strike up a relationship with each other that really becomes quite tedious as this goes along, and with the rather extended amount of time partying the first half is really just so bland and uninteresting that even while providing some nice eye-candy and setting up the mystery nothing much happens. The treks through the jungle are even more tedious of seeing everyone marching along in single file line through the admittedly lush jungles in a seemingly endless series of legs trudging along while every minute is taken up with the gang arguing with each other or complaining about the trip, and this causes the film to be so long and boring for the first hour here. Frankly, none of this is even remotely horror- related and causes this to take until the hour mark until it goes for horror, and that's not in the slightest bit interesting to take this long to get interesting. That is where the film really gets going as the slowly-dawning mystery being built in the first half gets paid off nicely here in the compound in a pretty brutal and graphic surgery scene to remove the one victims' organs which is easily the highlight here for the uneasiness it features as well as the cruelty for which it gives in the rationale for everything here. Even better is the escape here with the nice manner of how they get away as well as the generally enjoyable chases through the jungle using the native habitat and some rather clever tactics to help get away including a fantastic suspense scene of utilizing the secret underwater cave-system to get to safety. However, even that has problems, running for far too long by repeating useless scenes of everyone continually popping up for air and being so dark to being with the suspense is long gone by the time this finally resolves itself in a cliché, unconvincing manner. It's part of the reason for why this one is knocked down as much as it is.Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence and Nudity.
sarah_cheeky_monkey I thought this was a very interesting movie.I loved the way the movie was set out and how Kiko was luring the tourists into his uncles death trap but then decides they are good people and tries to get them to leave before his uncle arrives. There wasn't too much gore but just enough for a movie like this. I also liked the ending as it was a happy one for those who survived the ordeal as they were on their way back home - it's good to know that they all didn't die and some came back alive. It reminded me of 'Human Centipede' as the tourists were trying to get away from a mad surgeon just like the 2 girls in the Human Centipede. After reading the reviews on IMDb I thought it would be a really bad movie but it wasn't and I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
FlashCallahan Alex and his sister Bea, and her friend Amy meet other travellers and become friends after an accident with their bus. They follow a track through the woods and find a hidden paradise. They decide to stay in the place drinking with the locals and they meet Brazilian teenager Kiko. They are drugged and when they wake up, they are practically naked, with all their belongings, clothes, money, jewels, passports, backpacks stolen. They walk to a small village trying to find a police station, they get into trouble with the dwellers and they are helped by their acquaintance Kiko, who leads them to his uncle's isolated well-equipped cabin in the woods to wait for the next bus two days later. At night, Kiko's "uncle" arrives with his friends and the group discloses the sinister intentions of the newcomers.....Released at the same time as Hostel, and during the reign of 'Saw', this is one of those movies that got ignored by the public, due to bad press and the act that most people thought it would be another torture porn movie. There are violent scenes, but its so much more than a torture porn movie. For a start, the characters really are believable, and you do care for one or two of them, and also a few grate on you.Desmond Askew is particular irritating, especially if you are from his side of the world. He is a typical cockney wide boy, and it irks me to think that film makers as still typecasting us Brits as this awful parody. It loss a few points for this, but otherwise, it's a solid movie, with really beautiful locations, and a swimming scene hat is pure Oceana to the eyes.Ignore the fax that it's classed as torture porn and enjoy it for what it is, a film about the dangers of travelling and straying off the path.
