In this action-packed blockbuster, the recently retired Navy Seal: Casey Ryback (Steven Seagal) boards a Colorado to California train with his niece (Katherine Heigl) to start a vacation after the death of his brother. A group of mercenaries are also along for the ride, which will take them through 'Dark Territory' so that they can use it as a 'Mobile HQ' to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite. They are led by a former U.S computer hacker and computer genius named Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian) who provides the brains, while his partner Marcus Penn (Everett McGill) provides the brawn and the mercenaries. Ryback violently dispatches plenty of the mercenaries, including the main man Travis Dane who "never thought of that" and gets shot by Ryback through his computer while trying to escape. This restores the Pentagon's control of the satellite, giving them the chance to remotely destroy it and doing so moments before it destroys the Pentagon. All the actors do a great job with their roles and Ryback's one-liners are still great. My favourite Ryback line remains: "Nobody beats me in the Kitchen." Steven Seagal re-wrote most of the scenes he was in and did an excellent job with them.This movie has some great action scenes even though the special effects have not aged well after all this time, but everything else still holds up well.

Although this movie is flawed, I admit, I'm going to give it a 10 instead of a 9 because it's in my top 10 list of all time favorites.This is a film you either love or hate. The funny thing is, Steven Seagal is the flaw. Everything else is perfect. It seems as though he was doing the movie under duress. His acting is lazy he does it all with a quasi-gangster breathy voice for what reason I don't know. It just seems silly.Now with that out of the way, the rest of the cast and story are top notch. This is a "one man against an army" genre movie. A lot of work was put into it and effort was made to get so many details accurate. Each bad guy for instance actually gets a little character development and there are a lot of them. Early into the trip, terrorists board the train and use it as a mobile HQ to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite. The biggest problem with Under Siege 2 is the dumb villains for example Eric Bogosian and some of the action and one liners could have been much better but just like every sequel from then to now the film just isn't as good as the original film but on it's own it's a very enjoyable Seagal film although Steven Seagal is easily the worst of all this action heroes of the 80's and 90's with Arnie and Sly still being number one but like i said Under Siege II is not a bad film but don't expect much from it 7/10

This movie compares with Taken: a good plot and plenty of action from the hero to resolve the train hijack problem with mindless violence. Great action and of course Seagal is a fit and proper tough guy to carry out the necessary executions. It has various original twists for its time, and I did not find it predictable -- predictability spoils many current movies for me, so I watch very few, and only if strongly recommended by my few close advisers. I will always respect cooks after watching this movie. I have watched this movie three times -- usually I can forget most of a movie by that time and knowing it is good entertainment, can watch it again with enjoyment. For those who prefer something more cerebral, with a more involved plot, may I recommend the BBC series from 2008, Bleak House? 15 episodes, and a TV show has never been better.
