docm-32304 Firstly, I am not usually a fan of Jet Li films. I find the background music in his productions irritating and the fight scenes hokey. But I decided to give this one a try as I was curious why Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins would be in one of his films. I was completely surprised!!!! As others have mentioned, this film This film can stand on its own as a good piece of drama. At times, you could sense that the old paradigm for Li movies was being restrained, but it would quickly return back to the hopefully new direction for his career, with great writing and acting.If you are a dyed in the wool Jet Li fan, you might not like this one. But if you are simply a movie fan, this is an excellent and surprisingly good movie. I highly recommend.

snperera This movie is a favorite of mine! This has to be one of the most creative and emotional movies I have ever seen ever! Jet Li is so great in this movie1 You really feel for his character and you want him to get out this terrible, terrible situation that he's in!! I love the message of this movie about hope and family and how no matter what you go through in life that you will overcome. The action and fighting in this movie is so great as well!!! The enemy in this movie is great as well because you hate this guy and you want him to get seriously, seriously hurt. The supporting roles in this movie are awesome as well and you can tell that they really care for Jet Li as well.

Python Hyena Unleashed (2005): Dir: Louis Leterrier / Cast: Jet Li, Morgan Freeman, Bob Hoskins, Kerry Condon, Vincent Regan: Standard action fare regarding unleashing of inner rage as well as the releasing of it when he discovers kindness. Jet Li is fastened with a collar around his neck by an uncle who treats him as a dog. The collar is unfastened when he is ordered to attack someone who owes money. When one of these encounters ends tragically he finds refuge with a blind piano tuner and his stepdaughter who show kindness. This all ends violently so to satisfy the genre fans but much of this could have been more than it is. The film is well directed by Louis Leterrier with terrific action and special effects to boot but the screenplay is lacking. He previously made The Transporter and its sequel and this is pretty on par in terms of brainless entertainment. On the plus side this is one of Li's most endearing performance as a broken fighter introduced to compassion. Unfortunately solutions only come in violence so to free him from his nasty uncle. Bob Hoskins plays the ruthless uncle in what viewers await for an execution. Morgan Freeman plays the blind piano tuner along with Kerry Condon as his stepdaughter and both roles are standard and predictable seen countless times in other films. What it does contain is a message showcasing the releasing of wrong to the unleashing of right. Score: 4 ½ / 10

OllieSuave-007 This is an intense film about Danny (Jet Li), who has been raised like a dog since childhood by his gangster owner, Bart (Bob Hoskins). When Bart unleashes Danny's collar, he goes on attacking people as commanded by Bart. But, Danny escapes after an accident and is taken in the home of blind piano tuner Sam (Morgan Freeman) and his stepdaughter Victoria (Kerry Condon), who try to teach Danny how to behave like a human. However, Bart is on the trail, wanting him back in his leash.Director Louis Leterrier gave us a movie full of intense martial arts action (at times too overkill), but counter-balanced by a touch of drama when Danny is being sheltered by the tenderness of Sam and Victoria. Leaving Danny to choose between his owner who have housed him most of his life and his new "family members" Sam and Victoria is a pretty intriguing plot element that leaves quite a trail of suspense throughout the movie. ***minor spoiler*** The rest of the movie, though, is quite predictable. It was nice seeing Jet Li take on drama and Morgan Freeman in his usual warm and nice-guy role. Bob Hoskin proves he can be a very sinister bad guy, and demonstrated it quite convincingly in the film. Overall, it's a film that is is pretty good with some serviceable action/drama fun, but isn't too memorable for me; it's just one of those films I wouldn't watch repeatedly for entertainment.Grade B-
