Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

When I first saw trailers for this movie I thought it may be mildly interesting. The animation was sub-par with companies like Pixar, but this movie was advertised by Disney so I was interested. The biggest problem with this movie is that the overall concept is kind of stupid. I do not remember messenger pigeons ever being used in WWII (or to great extent). None of the jokes in this movie were really funny. The characters weren't too likable, and the movie seemed very short. I guess not much happens in the movie. The climax doesn't seem more climatic than the rest of the movie, which was pretty boring.Overall a pretty dull movie with almost no character development, and just an overall bad plot. Not to mention the animation is pretty awful.

Valiant is certainly a step up from Robots (then again, what isn't?). By itself, it's an extremely average film, but you can't help notice similarities between the two. It certainly doesn't help that Ewan McGregor - who played the main character in this studio's previous film - plays the main character here as well. It also doesn't help that he's EXACTLY THE SAME, personality-wise. He's a good-natured, underclass hero that you can't give a crap about no matter how hard you try. And just like Robots, at the end of this film you get a nauseating "everything's fine" scene where everyone's just dancing. But at least they did away with those nauseating, embarrassing pop culture references.Valiant is a predictable believe-in-yourself story (yet again an echo of Robots) with stereotype characters (ditto), illogical plot points and WTF moments (when the main character is chased across an entire ocean in a matter of seconds) but nice visuals. Being the Python fan, the prescence of John Cleese was enough to get me excited, but nothing could save the flat characters and predictable story.

Brilliant movie. A 'take' on every WW2 film ever made. Although this film had appalling reviews I had a feeling it would be good from the trailers I saw. I loved the cadets on the parade ground during their training. I thought the bit with Valiant giving his girlfriend nurse a flower was excellent. I especially liked the cool poise of the French Resistance when faced with dreadful odds. The film was more for adults than children, I'm sure the humour went straight over their heads. The graphics were good and I loved the colours used. I found this film to be very funny, very nostalgic and very nice looking. Loved the sound effects too.

My entire family enjoyed this brilliant and humorous movie, which offered a heart-warming component. The story line is captivating from the very beginning and retains full attention throughout. Bird-themed humor is consistently intertwined. Animation is first rate, as are the action scenes. The voice over actors and actresses are convincing and funny. The story wasn't entirely predictable, especially the latter half. Predictability seems to be a problem with many of the CGI animations produced recently. Interestingly unprecedented in CGI animations is the underlying historical element presented in this genius flick: the role of messenger pigeons in World War II.
