Harockerce What a beautiful movie!
Borgarkeri A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
Abegail Noëlle While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
thatpalechick I thought this movie was pretty okay, as far as Korean high school movies go. I bought the DVD with the American rappers doing the voices, and I was ready to hate the movie by the time the credits FINALLY rolled, but then I watched the Korean version and realized that the rappers had completely ruined it. So much stuff gets cut out or changed until the movie starts to look like they were trying to make fun of cheesy old kung fu movies. In its original form, however, the movie is great. Everything falls into place and makes so much more sense. You find that the characters aren't half as stupid as the rappers make them seem, and the story just works better. My advice to anyone interested in this movie is that they should watch the Korean version first. Watching the rapper-dubbed version may bias them against the original, and then they'll be left thinking the rappers made an improvement on the original
Masta_Ruthless Okay some one point out the good parts of this movie. From the stupid storyline to the horrible fight scenes, this movie did not please me in the least.I had more fun ripping my toenails out with a molten hot monkey wrench.I won't spoil the story for anyone who hasn't seen it, but make sure you have your puke bag and no doze aspirin with you. I'll give it the fact that the CG was okay, but that is not really a comment when you add in the other CG style movies like StormRider, The Duel, A Man called Hero, Legend of Zu, and Avenging Fist.In all, this movie was a live action Japanese anime without the Japanese. Sad to say Equilibrium was better than this, and that was a suck fest as well.Even after the horrible review from me, some of you will like this movie, some of you won't. It's a mixed review movie, but I'll say this, if anyone found this movie to be good then they haven't seen a lot of martial arts movies, because there are so much other martial arts movies that are 100 times better. The main character alone got on my nerves with his BS promise not to fight or get kicked out of school. Come on there has to be a better story for this, why did he wait until the last 10min of the movie to try and fight, and the hold out was terrible. All of that waiting only to have one of the most boring fight scenes in martial movie history.Again this is a review from a person that watched the Uncut Korean version of the movie so imagine how the MTV version was. But again some of you will find this movie entertaining, but from a martial artist and Kung Fu movie buff, this film is a blatant mockery.
mike paines I can understand why this film splits viewers into those who either love it-to-death or those who despise it. To properly enjoy Volcano High, you will need to relax, loosen up and dig up some old skool memories.Considering this is primarily a fun film, main and periphery characters are well portrayed, and there's a lots of subtle comedy and bombastic drama to keep anyone with a developed sense of humour happy. However, if you love martial arts movies, you will be disappointed - the martial arts is spread pretty thin. Although Volcano High is Korean, it appears to have gone the way of recent Hong Kong kung fu films, in that choreography is either obscured or entirely replaced by CGI effects. However, the special effects and acting are top-notch, Hyuk Jang especially evoking both sniggers and respect. Well made and good fun if you don't take your movie-watching too seriously. If, however, you want something a bit more substantial from Korea, try Musa or Shiri.
sahuagin ...I watched this film, regardless of all the bad reviews I have read (even on HKFlix who are usually very, very reliable!) and I don't get it?I don't mean I don't get the film...I don't get the bad reviews! The film ended 20 minutes ago and it will always stand as one of my all time favourites. As soon as it had finished I wanted to go through it all over again! It is the closest I have seen to a live action anime in the style of Tenchi Muyo or some other comical action series. Many people loved City Hunter with Jackie Chan but not this....when they both are as slapstick and absurd as each other at times...the anime humour and silly site gags.As for the cast....brilliant acting throughout and the Vice Principles habit of calling the Head a "silly old bugger" all the time kept me chuckling from the onset. The effects were very nice and the fight beat the snot out of that joke that is Matrix (which is a complete rip off of so many other things I don't even know where to begin!).So if you love anime and are willing to put up with the great action and slapstickness (it'll be hard to do so, I know!!) then go see it now.If your in the UK....buy the Hong Kong Legends 2 disk collectors & remastered edition with all those lurvely extras (yummy Yummy) as I have just done now 8o)
