Perry Kate Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Humbersi The first must-see film of the year.
Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
slapdog3 It's Just Okay Nothing More Nothing Less, I Read The Reviews And Well "The HOWLING Pt 1 (1981) Starring Dee Wallace And Her Ex Husband Christopher Stone Is The Best Werewolf Movie Ever Made And From The Looks Of It Will Be The BEST EVER Made With "WOLF" (1994) Starring Michelle Pfeiffer And Jack Nicholson Coming In 2nd!
davidlmarks "Wer" is a modern take on werewolf mythology. Taking place in France, this horror flick brings the concept of the full-moon, flesh eating creature into the 21st century, and boy does it deliver! A family is ravaged by what the lone survivor calls a hairy creature that stood on two legs and had huge hands. The mother described how the creature proceeded to eat her young son.Almost immediately, the local police detective Pistori has a suspect in custody-- Talan, a huge man with hair that covers his body. He belonged to a family with history in past land disputes and mysterious deaths. His defense team gathers to dispute what appears to be a miscarriage of justice. The team is made up of attorney Kate Moore (A.J. Moore from "Criminal Minds"), her assistant Eric Sarin (Vik Sahay from "Chuck") and animal specialist Gavin Flemyng (Simon Quarterman from "The Devil Inside").While researching, Gavin discovers a rare condition which could explain Talan's appearance. Should they be able to prove that Talan has this condition, it would pretty much exonerate Talan, as symptoms include elongated, weak bones that cause the sufferer to have no strength, and move slowly. This leads to an awesome scene in the hospital, where Talan is to be tested. The movie is break-neck-paced. There are a few subtitles, but most of the movie is in English. There are outstanding visual effects, especially of the practical kind. There are even some crackly, snapping standard werewolf turning scenes. There is a handful of POV/Found footage used, but not over-used, which is refreshing. They are used only for maximum impact (for example, weapon cams). The acting is first rate, and the directing (by William Brent Bell, who also co-wrote Wer) is top notch. William Brent Bell brought us such creepy fair as "The Devil Inside" and more recently "The Boy." And of course, there are a few "oh-- you KNOW this is going to get bad" moments, that are pretty much inevitable in a movie like this. It's easily the best werewolf film I have seen since "American Werewolf in London," which came out over 35 years ago. While AWIL was considered a comedy/horror mashup, Wer is all horror. In my opinion, Wer would have garnered a score of 10/10 if not for a blatantly Hollywood ending.Regardless, the film is outstanding!
John Doe I am a big fan of the werewolf lore, and when I discover a film about those cute pets, I always hope it won't end up as a complete mess, which is unfortunately more than often the case. But not here! Dang, it's the best Werewolf film in years, imho. I still remember the details after days and plan on watching it again in the next time. The film takes quite a different approach, which is highly appreciated by me: For a change you don't see any transformations into with fangs and claws armed beasts (just at one point some wobbling at the 'mans' back), instead you see some brutally raw animal like violence, similar to berserks with super powers. There could have been a tad more of it, but that action shown is well done and more 'realistic' like this.Plus it's also kind of a thriller/drama with the story also taking a bit of a scientific way to 'explain' the situation, which totally fits in.I found the characters likable developed and the acting well done, especially by the of the murders accused giant and her defender. I also liked the good directing and camera work.If you like quality werewolf films with some great gore and violence that differ from the majority there is, then you might want to check this one out. Definitely recommenced.
movies-by-db To start of with: this is NOT a found footage film. Some footage is found of the brutal slaying of a family on vacation in France, and it's analyzed and sets of the rest of the proceedings. The film is presented in a documentary style, nothing to do with found footage..And this doesn't make any difference since it's quite a brilliant film. Or maybe it does since some of those found footage films tend to take pretty illogical steps just to keep the FF gimmick alive. This is just a great, extremely original and thankfully very realistic take on the werewolf saga, slowly built up as a mystery murder thriller."Experienced" experts are brought in to examine this apparent brutal animal attack, however who could be prepared for what's to follow. Okay, the ending might have been slightly predictable but it is done with such vigor and ferociousness it's still highly enjoyable and very exciting to watch.Very well done, very well played by all, absolutely stunning make up- and gore effects, an excellent choice to let it play out in a different country and oh so original. It reminded me of that other very original genre film of late: "Afflicted". Iff you enjoyed that, you will absolutely love this! 8/10
