SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
GurlyIamBeach Instant Favorite.
pointyfilippa The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.
Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
W K I loved the film, as did so many others. The film is a great depiction of a Seder attended by a moderately dysfunctional family. The premise of psychedelic enlightenment bringing peace among a contention group is far from outlandish. The director should have played the theme right out to the end. It's one major shortcoming, in fact, is the tacked on final scene that essentially negates the entire premise of the movie. The director's commentary indicates that the scene was not in the original draft. They should have used that original draft. This was a cop out, a pulled punch. Otherwise this would be worth an 8 or 9 star rating.
robin-558 Our family had been waiting since April to see this film and it was definitely worth the wait! We laughed and (some of us) cried - we saw parts of ourselves in the members of this family. The ten plagues have nothing on this family! If you enjoyed Keeping Up With The Steins - put this one on your list as well. Jack Klugeman gives a fabulous performance as the Grandfather - he reminds us that it's helpful to understand where our parents have come from and from that we can better understand why they are the way they are. It might not make it any easier to be around them, but at least we understand. A MUST SEE - and you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy!
BurnU Really. This is a gem of a movie. Don't be fooled by the naysayers here. If you want to laugh and have a good time, go and see this film. Don't let the overly sensitive overly critical 'can't ever have a good time at the movies' crowd deter you from seeing this. Even most of the so-called professional movie critics don't get it right. What counts in the end is what the majority of film goers think. And with a 7.1 out of 10 rating (at this juncture) here at IMDb, you get the idea.A great ensemble cast...some great effects scenes...some great music...and a 'good to see him' appearance by Jack Klugman. Don't miss it!
jwortman-1 This film carried me away with its heartfelt and humorous purveyance of the Stuckman family struggle. Charming and captivating, as it was saddening and sincere. There is not a moment exempt from anticipation during the whole film, so don't forget to breath. As well you will find yourself laughing and tearing all at once. Each character, tragic in his own way, was well developed. The Stuckman's make a mockery of any modern family struggle while at the same time portraying a struggle that is all too close to home. This film has all the subtle nuances that make for a complete sensory experience like stellar computer graphic and a sonorous sound track. A hearty cheers to Litvak for bringing the Stuckman's so close to our hearts. Thank you for your work!
