Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Simple and effective. Without too much expense, no damages, no special effects and just a few actors. A credible story that can happen anytime. Kathleen Quinlan(remember her in"American Graffiti" ?) and Verna Bloom(Mary, Mother of Jesus in "The Last Temptation of Christ") are very natural. (both played with Telly Savalas in two different episodes of "Kojak"). All the other actors are good. Peter Graves's best role. I say this because of the final scene, when he says how much he loved his wife. John Llewellyn Moxey did a good job with minimal means. Even the rabid dogs played well under his direction. He made many successful TV series and TV films, including some that have enjoyed my childhood and my adolescence: "The Avengers," "The Saint," "Mission: Impossible" (the original series of the '60s-'70s , not those forgery with Tom Cruise), "Mannix", "Charlie's Angels", "Miami Vice".

It started out a normal day just like any other day when very large solar flares emitted from the sun and killed almost every person and animal on earth. The human survivors seem to have a special gene that kept them alive while the surviving animals have gone mad. The story centers around one man, Steven Anders, and his son and daughter that was with him that day. The family are on the search for any survivors while trying to head back home to see if Steven's wife (and the kid's mother) has survived this incident. This is a movie worth watching if you enjoy the post-apocalyptic types. Good cast and a very interesting story makes this film worth a watch.8/10

For a made for TV movie it had the ability to carry the theme-fear factor. Like most of the made for TV movies I expected it to rerun-but I never saw any times advertised later in TV Guide, THE weekly reference of programming. I just happened on it tonight searching Wikipedia and IMDb to see if I could find what the name of this movie that has haunted my memories for so many decades (1974 to 2011). This would be a great remake candidate with today's CGI effects. I especially recall the end. Wish SyFy would run this and a few more of the old movies like THE PEOPLE 1972. Such a cool premise-I still have hold over fears of a flash that takes out everyone-like NIGHT OF THE COMET 1984 and this movie Where Have All the People Gone. It's August 18th 2011 and I still think about it. I was 19 when the TV movies played October 1974. It would have made a great series from the pilot.

And it was an effective TV movie, because I remember it 36 years later. I wonder if it's available on DVD somewhere. I wonder if it would stand up. What worked was the creepiness of a killer sun, especially to a small child. Also what worked was the idea of finding bodies lying around, though I won't spoil what the condition of the bodies were. Also, while I can't remember the acting, exactly, I see the quality of the lead female and the solidness on TV of Peter Graves. I don't know why this movie stuck with me, but I think 80% of it is the fact that I was 5 years old and the title sounds like a line from the child rhyme, "Here's the church and here's the steeple...."
