U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko tracks a killer in Antarctica, as the sun is about to set for six months. I have seen Whiteout a few times by now since it's 2009 release and i gotta say it's not as bad as everyone makes it sound like the suspense was pretty good, the twists keep on coming, the acting was good and Kate Beckinsale is terrific as always. The movie reminds me a bit of D-Tox that 2002 Thriller starring Sylvester Stallone i mean you have a character with a troubled past that tries to locate a killer just like in D- Tox. The whole reason of why Carrie (Beckinsale) is there and why she is afraid of herself or things that she is going to fail makes perfect sense and the story even tho it's not original or anything it was pretty decent but unfortunately the movie has issues and one of the biggest ones is definitely the pacing of the movie it's very slow and even depressing at times but it's still a fun thriller that i think people will enjoy even with it's flaws. (7/10)

Stationed at an Antarctic research station, a United States marshal battles inner demons while trying to solve a murder mystery in this thriller from 'Swordfish' director Dominic Sena. The chief novelty of the film is the South Pole setting and filmed in the snowy Canadian wilderness, the film features some great exterior shots that make it genuinely feel like the characters are living in the most isolated continent on Earth. There are a couple of good chase scenes in the blistering snow too. All that said and done, the vast majority of 'Whiteout' disappointingly takes place indoors though and with far more dialogue than action, it mostly has the feel of a generic action investigative thriller; even the intermittent flashbacks to past events that still haunt her feel routine. The film does not get much out of its supporting characters either, Tom Skerritt's ageing doctor aside, which renders it a little hard to get emotionally invested as the body count begins to mount as the film plods along. Skerritt's final scene is admittedly awesome though and there is a very intense part in which he has to medically treat the protagonist (to say more might ruin a fresh experience of the film). When push comes to shove, there is enough of interest in 'Whiteout' to render it possibly worth a look, but as a narrative it is hardly first rate, protagonist haunted by past memories or not.

The film opens well: some Russians on a plane during the cold war have a shoot-out only for the aeroplane to lose control over the endless white landscape of the Antartic.Fast forward to modern day and Kate Beckinsale strips to her underwear in a particularly unerotic and pointless scene, before her shower probably disappointed a lot of men by revealing nothing. And, unfortunately, the film continues plodding along at this seemingly pointless, uninspiring and by-the-numbers pace, as if someone thought that an isolated setting and Save the Cat beat-sheet were enough to make a good film. Well, that person was very wrong.Beckinsale's character moves from dull "suspense" scene to the next, as flashbacks reveal her inner turmoil (sigh) and an ice pick wielding killer falls over constantly like something out of Scream.Seriously, it's god-awful and 20 minutes from the end, I really couldn't suffer it any more and turned it over, hence the score of a 1.To be so close to the end and to not care about anyone, their motives or how it ends sums this film up perfectly: please don't waste your time on it.

I should have trusted the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. After watching this really boring film, I realized why it got 7% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Kate Beckinsale doesn't fit into the role of a US Marshall at all, no offense but it's like getting Whoopi Goldberg to play the role as a fashion model wearing a bikini for a photo shoot on a beach in a movie. Her role as the US Marshall was never convincing at all and it's hard to image why her character was there in the first place. I really thought it was going to be a good thriller but the film seems to be dragging on without much action most of the time and I was losing my focus easily. If you still choose to watch it, prepare to be bored most of the time during the movie.
