Boring, over-political, tech fuzed mess

It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

Whoever the director ,don't deserves to be mentioned , I read the book and it is perfect ,but movie from start shows that the story was revised, and now is average .. please don't change masterpiece with your stupid movie script !!!!!!!! why change such good book I don't know ,and why writer Мария Семенова allow such changes of her book to film ? this movie is a shame for one of the best epic fantasy book that I ever read !Only what i like in this movie is casting of actors . Aleksandr Bukharov is perfect for a role of Volkodav and beautiful Oksana Akinshina for a role Knesinka Elen . Evgeniya Sviridova is also very convincing as Niilit . I am shame to say that I wish one of Hollywood studios buy the rights to the film and make better remake ,or HBO make series like they make book Game of throne in such perfect adaptation !!!!

I was ready to put down this fantasy film for the following reasons:1. The very cliché colourless blue-green photography that has become almost universal since "Lord of the Rings" and makes me wonder if fans of those films (and the CGI artists responsible for them) have ever experienced real sunlight; 2. The bloody battle scenes borrowed from the spastic camera work of "Gladiator" and the first scene, borrowed from "Conan the Barbarian"; 3. The fact that there are not enough speaking parts and the stories, back-stories and flashbacks are difficult to follow and put together; 4. The music that aspires to loudness more than anything else; 5. And the fact that most blond, bearded long-haired Russians look alike. But I decided to be more lenient because...1. This is a Russian fantasy film that can look back to a great tradition of movies like "Sadko" (1954); 2. It is based on a book and it must have been difficult to compact all that data into a coherent whole; 3. The ending is kind of cool and carries a positive message; 4. The sets, costumes, art direction and composition are excellent - IN SPITE of the anaemic colour scheme; 5. I liked the bat; 6. It wasn't an American action film.

Not surprisingly, the new wave of Russian directors & films kick some asses, for sure. For the ones who haven't seen "Admiral", "Mongol" or "The 9th Company", "Wolfhound" might be quite a nice surprise. This movie is very well made, full of high tension fighting scenes and quite a nice plot (slightly touched by clichés like LOTR or Conan, of course). No, it's not Peter Jackson, no Hollywood sky-high budgeted movie: it'a a nice movie from Russia. I think we'll hear about Mr. Ledbedev (the director) quite soon. Anyway, this is only the first book from the four ones on the subject, right? What it's more interesting is that, even the leading lady-actress starred in "The Bourne Supremacy", the rest of the cast is quite new to us. And they don't disappoint, if you just don't make the big mistake to compare them to the Hollywood stars, living in a different system with different rules. Before 1989, living in Romania, I was intoxicated with Russian movies (the war ones, quite good, the classics - exceptional, but some of them were really crap), maybe more than other people behind the Iron Curtain. Now, it's good to see there is a new fresh breath in the Russian movie-making.

This movie has nothing left to see, it is the single greatest production I've seen in the past years in this genre.I have no idea how this movie managed to get to Germany because we don't have many east European productions synchronized but I'm happy that I've got the opportunity to see this. The acting is great, the story full plotted. This movie isn't boring and also complete, it is five times better than Lord of the rings. It's a classic but at the same time tries to avoid clichés.Sometimes there are some bad cuts, but it doesn't disturb the enjoyment of watching this movie.ALso, for the Germans, the synchronization is exceptional good.
