Synopsis

Now in her twenties, Anne returns to Avonlea for the first time since Marilla Cuthbert's death. Gilbert has been offered a position in a hospital in New York, and he persuades Anne to come with him. He arranges a position for her at a large publishing house. Big city life isn't what they expected. Anne's manuscript is stolen by a dashing American writer, Jack Garrison. Thus the stage is set for a final three hour installment in the "Anne of Green Gables" story which follows the characters from New York, the war effort in Europe and eventually returns them to the red earth of Prince Edward Island.

KnotMissPriceless Why so much hype?
DipitySkillful an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
libbygi I'm an avid Anne lover and adore the first two movies....I've attempted watching the Continuing Story in the past but could never get past the first 10, sickening, minutes.Since it's been years since my last crack at it, I thought I'd give it another try tonight - but oh, how I'm regretting it. Seeing an additional 30 minutes into the movie has only polluted Anne & Gil & Green Gables further!Everything is off in this movie. Familiar and beloved characters are rendered complete strangers. Anne's voice is unnervingly different & gravelly, and both Anne and Gil look...awful (especially Megan, I hate to say it...she's a natural beauty but it looks like she had botched plastic surgery before this movie or something...her mouth and chin are so tight and strained looking)...sorry, but it's true :(As other reviewers have pointed out the time-line is all wrong. But worse than that, it all feels so thin and empty.Bottom line: It's disturbing for Anne lovers to even catch a glimpse of. Steer clear - don't let your curiosity get the better of you!
anna-39 The problem with this film is not the film itself. It is entertaining enough and there is lovely chemistry between Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie. Fans had been longing for a long time to see these two in the roles that they own so much. But... the problem really is that producer Kevin Sullivan thought he had the right to change the life story of characters created by someone else. He thought that Anne's story was not dramatic enough (and the legal disputes with the heirs didn't help) and decided to invent something that would be bland and entertaining. By doing this he overruled the expectations of millions of fans that loved Anne's story - he had the perfect chance, perfect actors and a great story (who in their right mind can say that Anne's House of Dreams is not dramatic enough??) and he missed that. It is really unfortunate and sad. Why call them Anne and Gilbert when they obviously are not them?
RahzelleWR I know many people have disliked this movie because it is so jarringly different from the previous two, but this one is my favorite and I think it's the best of the three. What I love about the first two Anne of Green Gables movies are their beautiful simplicity. They really do take you back to a simpler time. All the pastoral beauty and innocence. But the third movie portrays how it really was for people of this generation. In their youths things were lovely and simple but the world changed around them very fast. Also consider all the adventure that takes place in this movie. Anne has little need for all her imagination here because everything going on around her is so dramatic. (Anne even gets to dress like a Nun, something she's always imagined) It's like she's living out everything she'd imagined though perhaps not in the ways she would like. But the very, very best thing about this movie is the love that has matured between Anne and Gilbert and their constant devotion to each other. This movie is most definitely the most romantic of the three and I love it!
susie_mai From a writers point of view I must say I can understand a few of the things depicted in Anne of Green Gables - the continuing story. First of all - it is called Anne, and not Rilla. The perspective and focus would have been way off and not as interesting. I think, this is just my own philosophies here - that Mr Sullivan has chosen to focus more on historic correctness, Romance and this with a touch of biographical material of L.M Montgomery. It is said that L.M Montgomery actually was active within the Red Cross. Witch Anne is too, as we've all seen. Following the history books on that. When it comes to Gilbert there's a soldier, who bares a liking with him - history wise. I don't remember his name now. But it was the one who wrote the poem "In Flanderns fields". This soldier won the gold medal at collage, studied medicine and enlisted as medical personal. He was injured though, and was placed at a field hospital. Vimy Ridge spoken about in the series, was in fact one of the biggest battles won for the "good guys", and for Canada. When it comes to the actual story - I must say I don't think it's that far of a leap in the sense that it would be something that Anne could do. Dianas "You do what the rest of us only dream of doing, Anne" is a perfect head on the nail. Now, I have only read three out of eight books, granted, but I'm familiar with the rest. It kind of would have been fun seeing Anne and Gilbert with their house and their kids - but I think all and all it was a good story and it managed too keep a bit of Annes edge and Gilberts charm. And at the same time, it managed to make the circle round... Anne experience the exact same scene from the very beginning. Of course only then, she was in Dominics position and Matthew was in hers.
