Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Cissy Évelyne It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
quindog Now I know where actors and actresses who didn't make the grade for daytime soaps went. On a spaceship. A great pretense but between bad acting and the laughable writing, well... I couldn't get through the first episode.
themejunky Sorry, SciFi, but I really had serious problems believing a story about 600 of the supposedly world's brightest people getting trapped inside of a fake space station (spoiler alert!) and not being able to figure that out after 50 years. Sure, I guess that most of the main characters were too busy going to the beach and trying to screw each other to notice, but you would think that someone in Engineering would have noticed that they weren't actually moving at some point.I was also confused why a spaceship launched in the early 1960's had laptop computers that look they came from the 1980's, but that was easier to swallow than the original premise of the show.I'm kind of glad that they didn't do a second season of this show. I can't imagine how it would be better than the first.
swjg Premise - Cold war is in full swing, mankind isn't going to survive, using the Mercury/Gemini era as a "front" - in the background a giant spaceship is built by the Kennedy administration - in secret mind you - and sent to the nearest star cluster where it is hoped a suitable planet will be found and man can survive by colonizing a planet. The 100 year mission is halfway through. The first generation of the 600 colonists have all died out of natural causes and old age to be replaced by the second generation born in space. The second generation will begat a third generation who will be the ones who will actually arrive at the star cluster and look for a planet. The opening of the series joins the mission 51 years in with the second generation living their lives. Clothing styles are late 1950's. The sets are an interesting speculation - all "state of the early 1960's art" The library is real books, the consoles are B&W cathode ray tubes, recording media - big reels of tape and so on.The 600 crew are stratifying into upper and lower deck, factions are forming, someone is murdered.Meantime back on Earth - the mission has been forgotten - because it was secret and the few who launched it are dying out. Someone figures out something is going on and.....After one and a half episodes - I couldn't care less. It's a bad Raymond Chandler murder story on a hoaky set that we couldn't heavy lift into space in this day and age - never mind in 1962/3."The grain stores will be short from the illicit distilling going on on the lower deck" You really want me to believe you can carry grain for 600 people for 100 years? If this gets a second season - then people are more gullible than Tom hoping he will catch Jerry one day......I stopped after two episodes..........I became aware of a different interpretation to the series after I stopped - to tell it here would be a spoiler - still doesn't make me want to go back and watch the rest of it.
chazwyman I was willing to accept the basic premise, that a simulation of a space flight was an experiment kept secret for 50 years - however stupid. But for the simulation to be credible; it would have to be believable most of all to the people in the experiment. The experiment has been running for 50 years yet the whole ship looks like it just came out of the factory. There is no wear and tear, no scratches, everything works perfectly and the all seem to have a unending supply of newly tailored clothes - where is the cotton and the wool coming from? But it is worse than that - much worse. If the ship was made in 1963 - that it would be full of 1960s technology. SO when did they buy in all the huge FLAT SCREENS? The fact is that the whole "ship", is not only factory fresh, it could only be made in the future with those big screens in the Terra-lab.SO i'm dumping this after 3 episodes because the designers have not bothered to THINK. I'd direct them to well designed Sci-Fi, like Blade Runner, the "Alien" cycle, and many other SUCCESSFUL representations of their worlds.
