HeyHeyheyKids can't say much that hasn't already been said: insightful and fun little Brit show about three supernatural beings trying to keep their s*it together. as a fan of doctor who, I don't mind giggle-inducing FX and some awkward editing, but here those superficial faults don't even read, given the fun plot and often brilliant writing.Russell Tovey and Lenora Crichlow are fabulous as (respectively) a highly-strung werewolf dude and an upbeat ghost girl trying to make the best of her (after)life, but it's the third member of the cast who gets my attention the most. holy S*IT Aidan turner is hot. he's a terrific actor and is given a lot of range and space to develop Mitchell, a vampire suffering from blood withdrawal in what is a blatant metaphor for substance addiction. but DAMN SON, i can't focus on your monologues n s*it with DEM ANGELIC BROWS and SCULPTED-ASS FACIAL STRUCTURE. in a couple of episodes he's half naked and i swear i literally almost wept...'thank u Jesus', i whispered to the heavens.rampaging hormones aside, watch this show. If gore and relatively explicit sex scenes ain't your thing, then step aside, but pretty much everyone else should find something to like here: engrossing story lines, genuinely funny writing, but above all, believable and hyper-endearing performances from the supernatural trio.I rarely give a crap about the characters of any shows I watch, but with this one, they feel like they could be some of your best buds that just happen to be dead or prone to turn into a wolf.
dragonascending-305-964949 I forced myself to watch the first three seasons and episode one of the fourth. After that, no matter how much I craved entertainment, I couldn't force myself to watch another episode. To be fair, I watched the first three seasons hoping it would get better. Well, as is said, better hope in the soul than soap in your hole. This is yet another poor attempt to create a fantasy/horror/whatever series hoping to evoke a WOW in those watching it. For me it was more of a THUD. I saw one inconsistency listed on this board yet I saw many throughout the series, other than Annie's gravestone. Why for instance are we subjected to George's bare butt after he has transformed back to being human, but Nina is shown fully clothed? Are female werewolves more modest for some reason and is this natural to the werewolf persona? When for example, between transforming from werewolf to human, is she coherent enough to dress herself again? I believe this is called cheap theatrics and not worthy of those viewing the program. Are two races of beings, which have survived countless centuries, so ill prepared that a werewolf arrives in an attic to take down a vampire just before he transforms and is thus susceptible to being killed instead by the vampire? He's already killed dozens of other vampires, yet the one he has been searching for the longest, he mucks up so very badly. As a plot device it was the weakest link. I would highly recommend in future, BBC takes a leaf from HBO in the production of plausible fantasy/horror. This is after all the keystone to good fiction, making even the wildest of ideas somehow plausible. It would be equally grand if Hollywood and all television production would actually read some of the very great works of fantasy/science fiction which are available and have been for more than thirty years. Why are we being subjected to remakes of classics such as Total Recall, Conan and others? Especially when the remakes are so poorly executed.
Roger This was a 10/10 until I just watched season 3. I must say what a disappointment. Its taking a show that started with a comical perspective on some of the darker things in our minds...and ends season 3 with all the class of a cheap soap opera? The final episode was just awful! Obviously constructed off-the-cuff with no thought whatsoever. It was as if they made it up as they went. The best part was....killing an attacking werewolf with a kitchen knife?...come on...it wasn't even silver! I think reducing Mitchell to babbling fool was another mistake, he was the pivotal character in the whole series, with a depth and dimension unmatched by any other character in the story. His conflicted personality is a great touch, but to reduce a 100+ year old vampire to that level over love is to be quite honest, ridiculous. This is supposed to be a supernatural thriller, not a 'Days of Our Lives' competitor. Annie adds to the program with her illogical and irritating behavior, George and Ninas characters however just show a lack of any common sense or perspective. I can see what the writers are trying to achieve with 'monsters' trying to maintain morality, but they fail dismally as their opinions and actions lack any kind of connection with reality.
Fennris The production values here are very questionable; there are virtually no f/x other than a handful of werewolf transformations (which may all be taken from one reel, not sure yet). The rest of the werewolf shots are movement off-camera with shadows and fairly bad makeup/costumes; stuff from 1950s Hollywood...There's virtually no action. We have seen two of the main characters get beat up and/or pushed around a couple times but that was brief, unsatisfying and otherwise did nothing for my action itch.Other than that is story, the characters and rather reckless, go-for-broke acting (and some good music). Occasionally they miss their marks but far more often they do not and the show and characters definitely have grown on me where I did not think they would. The three main actors have remarkable chemistry; they could probably thrive with any material. I had no idea what they were going to do with the ghost in this show but her stories have consistently been my favorites.I recommend it with the caveat that you will need an open mind if you're used to a bit more Hollywood polish.
