Synopsis

Set 58 years before Battlestar Galactica, Caprica follows two rival families - the Graystones and the Adamas - as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the peaceful 12 Colonies, living in a society close to our own. Entangled in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe, blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics.

Reviews

Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Delight Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
LeeRob7 Caprica is an entertaining and informative prequel to the hugely entertaining Battlestar Galactica series, answering many outstanding questions such as how the Cylons came to be, the birth of artificial life, why the Cylon leaders differ from other Cylons and the origins of the one true god faith amongst other things. This series is hugely enthralling with excellent character portrayals, acting and story writing. Poor CGI effects, especially in animating the Cylon robots, and the hurried sense attained from the final 5 episodes are the main two areas that let down this otherwise great series, especially since we have come to expect much more from the Battlestar Galactica franchise on both fronts. A lower budget is evident whilst rushing to wrap things up can be explained by the series being cut early after only 1 season to fans dismay. There was so much more that could've been done here and so many avenues to explore. Overall I was thoroughly entertained by this series and did not want it to end. There were a few problems buy mostly positives especially in conceptual story writing that seamlessly fits alongside the Battlestar story.
A_Different_Drummer This review digitized in 2014 and as I watch the muck coming through the film pipeline (explained below ***) I look back to shows like this as defining a "turning point" when TV productions evolved into overall higher quality product than theatre/DVD releases. Caprica was my first introduction to the saga of the 12 planets and it was such a rush (for the all-too-brief run) that I went digging back for the earlier series. The writing is exceptional. The casting is brilliant and finely defined, everyone does their character justice, but Eric Stoltz gives what could be the greatest performance of his career and Paula Malcomson balances his left brained persona superbly. Wonderful and engrossing. (***The film biz has always been about money but never before has the desire to "fill the pipeline" -- ie, keep new product moving for threatre, cable, satellite, DVD, streaming -- so highlighted the flaws in an already flawed system. If it means a potential profit of even a penny, even the most horrific projects with the most horrific scripts can get greenlighted, and often do. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH TV, there are more checks and balances at that end of the system!)
Frank Klein 4th Although this was a tremendous work, I only gave it 9 stars due to some of the incongruities with Battlestar Galactica, which I consider to be the greatest collection of stories produced in a television series to date. I do not write any spoilers, but I do write the following: They produced a tremendous program here. The writing is top-notch, with superior stories involving human social dynamics. These stories expose where we may be heading with technology, especially with where we could be headed with gaming and retention of our identities. Interestingly, I am presently writing a novel that contains similar information, though I view much of what they present as negative as very positive. This is a must see for any Battlestar Galactica fans, but is altogether unique, and could be enjoyed by anyone that enjoys drama, realistic Science Fiction, some action/adventure, comic books, etc. Pretty much anyone should enjoy this program. Stereotypical women would also enjoy watching this, as it includes chic-flick elements, and is presented in a very soap-opera fashion, but not to the point of being disturbing to macho-men. The most major incongruity with Battlestar Galactica is that the views of monotheism are vastly different. But, as this occurred 50 years earlier, some views may have changed. Also, Admiral Adama seems to be shaped much differently than would be believable. I hope you enjoy this great program as much as I did.
yotehunter7772 It was "pretty good" up until episode 1-6 or 1-7 then they decided to add the fake "F" word to it..Witch they SOOOOOO over use!!!! So I stopped watching it..It turned into every sentence or two was "frag this" "frag that" "mother frager" "friging this" fraging that" SOOOOOOOO stupid!!! I think it is so childish, to "invent" a word just to stay "TV-14"... Why not just say the real stupid "F" word and make it rated "R"I think its a shame they don't have enough vocabulary to make shows with out "inventing", more slang words for kids to hear and say!!!Pitiful if ya ask me!!!! It KILLED this show for me, and others I have spoken to about it also agrees.......
