Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

This anime would be much better if I were around 12 or 13 years old because I probably would not have been able to compare this show to others like Elfen Lied or any of the plethora of the wrongly accused jail movies. Aside from being uninspiring, the real problem is that entire show suffers from a severe mismatch between plot tone and characterization. The tone is depressing and bleak while the characters contradict this by being silly and comedic. It simply does not work because the comedy is not very good (mostly just lame fan service stuff) and the dark tone is not reinforced by the characters at all (they are too easy going and dumb most of the time). Thus you cannot care for either. There are plenty of dark comedies out there but this one is not good enough to be either a comedy or a drama. Imagine if Dragon Ball Z took itself seriously... it simply would not work. Same here. I did not even enjoy the 1st few episodes that most people seem to like.

Deadman Wonderland is definitely a great anime, filled with lots of action, gore, and psychological themes. However, it is not a show for kids. It contains lots of violence, plenty of gore, and strong profanity. The main character is Ganta Igurashi, a normal teenage boy. However, his entire class is slaughtered and he is the sole suspect. All evidence points to him (even though he is totally innocent), and he is sent to Deadman Wonderland, Japan's only private-run prison. This is no ordinary prison. Prisoners can participate in deadly obstacle courses and games, with the reward being 'cast point's, the prison currency. At the prison we meet Shiro, a mysterious and very eccentric girl who we learn is Ganta's childhood friend. Ganta finds out he has a power called Branches of Sin, which allows him to control his blood. He vows to destroy the person who killed his friends, whom he calls The Red Man, with his newfound power. This anime is very gory and intense, but I highly recommend it as it is an awesome anime.

but definitely not for kids, what with all the ultra-violence n stuff...Ganta is a school kid wrongly accused of murdering everyone in his class, and he is convicted and sentenced to this hell-hole theme park style prison where the inmates have fiendish games and tests that usually kill lots of them...certain prisoners have a special power enabling them to make weapons out of their own blood, and the twisted warden who runs the joint fights these special prisoners called 'Deadmen' against each other for paying guests in an arena style death-match. Ganta is trying to find the real killer of his friends while also trying to stay alive in this nightmarish place...with awesome animation, interesting characters and an engaging and twisted story, plus copious blood and gore, this show is a real winner...as long as u are not easily offended...

everyone has a little bit of bloodlust in them, this program makes you aware of yours, there are moments that you will see (for example) someone's eye pulled out or someone's arm cut of, it's pure gore, but it's fascinating in a way.I really enjoy the show, the story, and the characters, in the first part of the first episode, you'll think that it's pure justice that these prisoners are risking their lives for the audience's pleasure, but once you start to know the characters, you will see that they have problems of their own. especially the boy, he's been put there unjustly.overall a great thing, keeps me thinking :P p.s. bear with my bad English.
