Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Stoutor It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
cathylr This series is in the ´purest´English humour. I am putting ´pure´ between brackets as each character is worse than the other in its own way. In common, they have no sense of moral, they are lazy and incapable of living with normal human beings. To be watched with a couple of beers and no other expectation than to have good laughs.
bbewnylorac If you ever feel down and need a laugh, this series is just the remedy. It's such a bizarre plot -- three shonky priests living together on an obscure Irish island -- but it works! Every episode I've watched I have found hilarious. I was raised Catholic but I don't find it offensive. It's a parody of Catholicism, but Lord knows it needed it. Witness the couple running the local shop, John and Mary, who are constantly trying to murder one another -- until Father Ted comes in, and they act like pious angels. My favourite episode would have to be when the drunken lout Father Jack is finally sent away to a retired priests' home. The replacement priest sent to live with Father Ted and Father Dougal is an obnoxious slob, who is, incredibly, even more offensive than Jack, so Ted and Dougal plot to kidnap Father Jack back from the home. All praise to the actor playing Jack -- not a role with a great range of behaviours but it's strangely honest that he's so consistently awful. Father Dougal represents all the dangerously simple minded twits in the world, and he's played with a lot of sly wit by the actor. As for Father Ted, a tour de force performance by the late, great Dermot Morgan. Ted is someone trying to be good, but failing spectacularly.
Michiel1965 Father Ted is (absurd) comedy at its very best I think. Father Ted lives on Craggy Island with his goofy Father-to-be Dougal. No, its not THAT kind of relationship! They have a moustached maid called Mrs Doyle and the former priest Jack. There are sterling performances by Dermot Morgan as Ted and Ardal O'Hanlon. The dialogue and is incredibly funny and the story lines are, well, peculiar. Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn) is wonderful too but also a bit scary...You really have "to dig" Father Ted, my gf does not and seriously think I am demented when I am rolling on the floor laughing. Personally I think that(and yes, it sounds snobbish...so be it)Father Ted is for the true (black-)comedy-gourmet. It teaches one important lesson...Irish are more fun than British and I guess that will come as a shock to some.Yes, the church can be fun, just watch Father Ted.Dermot Morgan died suddenly in 1998, may he rest in peace.
Foobarman 10/10 - perfect rating.Father Ted is a great sitcom about 3 catholic priests (Father Ted, Father Dougal and Father Jack) on an island called Craggy Island. It is one of the funniest TV shows ever made, surpassed only by Friends and Two and a Half Men.It is certainly the most funny non-USA comedy. It may offend some catholics but i know a catholic who thinks this is the funniest show ever.If you really want a great laugh I would definitely watch this. This show never fails to crack me up. The way Father Jack always shouts out "Drink!" whenever he wants alcohol is really funny. To sum it up: it is an absolutely hilarious comedy that anyone can enjoy.
