ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Aedonerre I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
Ogosmith Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Sybil Green they usually short but delicate, just like this Fingersmith.2 different women fall in love with secret plans inside each other, they want save themselves from the other but...just like lose the control, they sleep together, kiss, have sex, then try to deny all those 'sin', they hurt, kill, shut out, love seems transform into hate, expect their cares, never change.this is happy ending story, finally 2 girls know the truth, forgive and be together again. Mode is always the more-love one,she knew the plan from beginning but still love, love that not beautiful girl, that could hurt her girl, she's deep love more than i thought,or maybe love is a no-reason thing i just can't pretty understand.(btw, the little Mode is quite beautiful, why doesn't have other typical works) i always have interest in lesbian shows, this the first costume lesbian drama i said, lucky for me,it's better than great,i feel so much.
Here Sometimes I discovered Fingersmith precisely in one of IMDb users lists a few months ago, which I found strange because Fingersmith dates from 2005. I had never heard about the series before but decided to give it a try, since the story seemed so appealing. And well, what can I say? I've watched it a few months ago and no matter how many times I watch it, I never grow tired. I envy those of you who haven't watched it, for all those marvelous sensations are yet to come! I don't think we could expect anything less from such a masterpiece as Fingersmith (relating to the book, now). Notwithstanding the fact that books are generally better than its adaptations, this one really matches the former. The acting is astonishing, even though Sally Hawkins could have been more intense at times (but perhaps that's just due to the fact that Sue's not as intense as Maud). What's more, Elaine Cassidy is brilliant! You only must be delighted watching her eye-expression, those eyes really say it all. And then, Imelda Staunton, Rupert Evans, Charles Dance and David Troughton are indeed wonderfully characterized. The twists and turns, apart from the acting, are something, which make the story unpredictable. However, it took me a moment to understand all the twists in the last part of the series, for they come quite fast and unexpected, but in the end they make perfect sense. I also feel that they could've explored Maud's childhood a bit more (as the book does), so that the viewer would truly understand why she would do such a thing. Despite these few critical aspects, I strongly recommend Fingersmith to those who enjoy a love story. And an outstanding one.
Zero Well, I recently found myself being recommended this BBC drama. Indeed, Fingersmith is very well acted, and directed. so I won't go into what's been stated repeatedly. However, I caution anyone reading these reviews prior to watching the movie. After watching this a number of times, it loses some of the initial "oh wow" glamor. I think the adaption really is for people who have read the book and can interpret the actions of the actors as hate, or tension or something of that nature. I think the one of the best parts of the movie (WARNING: SPOILER) is when Maud is looking at Sue asleep against the boat. This was undoubtedly the look of "I want you so bad it's driving me mad."(End Spoiler). That was one of the few moments of one definite emotion being expressed. Other than that, it was hard to tell just where the general feelings of guilt/deception/friendly care end and the attraction begins.Personally I thought it was good to begin with. But, then I read the book and it became much better. There really isn't that much expressed romantic tension between Maud and Sue, as much as tension about the 'horrible trick' they are playing. It's really not a romance, and that is good because it shouldn't be. This movie should be a tale of deception, and lies, with a side-note of blooming affection between the characters, that eventually becomes a pretty rose by the end of the tale. There have been a lot of comparisons to Tipping the Velvet (TTV), and for the most part I agree that Fingersmith was much better. However, I think that in terms of blatant sexual tension, TTV is the way to go. For a more explicit romance, definitely TTV. But, if you want something to watch over and over again and see a little more each time, Fingersmith.I give it an 8 out of 10, but really it's one of the best period drama's as well as pieces of lesbian cinema out there are of right now. However, on a grander scale, I think Fingersmith is very dependent on ones understanding from the book, and without it comes across as vague until the very end. Had it been a little less vague (a category TTV wins at) it would have definitely been a 10.
Mattias Petersson Historical drama is one of the areas where the British just can't be beat. So while i'm not a huge fan of the genre, i can usually be persuaded to watch something lite this if it's British and with decent actors.I have never read anything by Sarah Waters, which is of course something i should do. Hence i didn't really know what to expect from this. I had heard that there would be a lesbian love story, but not much more. While watching it i found it to be a lot more interesting than i had anticipated. Without saying too much the twists and turns of the plot are unexpected as well as well-crafted. Although there were almost a twist too many somewhere, it took me a minute to get everything straight.Production values are good, the actors are very solid and the pace is decent, although i found it to be a bit slow in the last half-hour. That might just be me though, i usually have a problem with movies dragging on after the plot is more or less finished. All in all though, this is a fairly enjoyable three hours. I recommend it to anyone interested in historical dramas.
