Synopsis

Get Smart is an American comedy television series that satirizes the secret agent genre. Created by Mel Brooks with Buck Henry, the show stars Don Adams, Barbara Feldon, and Edward Platt. Henry said they created the show by request of Daniel Melnick, who was a partner, along with Leonard Stern and David Susskind, of the show's production company, Talent Associates, to capitalize on "the two biggest things in the entertainment world today"—James Bond and Inspector Clouseau. Brooks said: "It's an insane combination of James Bond and Mel Brooks comedy." This is the only Mel Brooks production to feature a laugh track. The success of the show eventually spawned the follow-up films The Nude Bomb and Get Smart, Again!, as well as a 1995 revival series and a 2008 film remake. In 2010, TV Guide ranked Get Smart's opening title sequence at No. 2 on its list of TV's Top 10 Credits Sequences, as selected by readers.

Diagonaldi Very well executed
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Helloturia I have absolutely never seen anything like this movie before. You have to see this movie.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
micksteel86 A few years ago I auditioned for a quiz show THE EINSTEIN FACTOR. My special subject was GET SMART. They asked me about 20 questions. I got one wrong , it was a question at which I responded , I don't care about that stuff. When asked what prison camp Max was sent to .. I responded as quick as Max Gitchee Goomee Noonee Wawa. and I felt that every other question was as easy as my own name. Except one; How many prisoners were sent to the prison camp?I said "That's a ridiculous question. How is anyone supposed to know that....... 23 .... CorrectI didn't get on the show when they found out my wife worked at the TV station. Ridiculous, because there was no prize money, just a statuette.Anyway Max killed bad guys and we laughed. He also killed good guys accidentally and we laughed. (The Worst Best Man)There were 2 great series. Series 1 and series 4. Series 4 notably for it's Arne Sultan, Leonard Stern Allan Burns & Chris Hayward episodes. My favorite episodes are Schwartz's Island and Too Many Chiefs. My favorite line Chief: We still don't know Favorite password; You say Apple , I say Mackintosh.
bigverybadtom Yes, the TV show was light entertainment. No, it had no deep meaning and never pretended to. Yes, the story is like that of the Pink Panther movies: bumbling hero manages to defeat his adversaries anyway. The show was conceived as a parody of James Bond movies, and though Agent 86 wasn't altogether like Bond (he wasn't a womanizer, and he wasn't cool all the time), the show still did its job.So what made the series work? For one thing, 86 may have been a stumble-bum, but he wasn't a complete idiot. He was able to figure out things on his own, such as how a woman pretending to be regressed to childhood was in fact pretending due to her "Captain Kangaroo" reference. When he fought, he did so realistically and with genuine ability. Like Clouseau, he was able to think and act intelligently at times, not just bumble his way to victory, or have others do the work while he got the credit. The series wasn't perfect. Many jokes and phrases were overused, including the Cone Of Silence. But it was overall quite enjoyable.

n-ellen I understand that HBO is releasing "Get Smart" on DVD within a short while (today is 10/29/05) .. so, you wish will be coming true .. anyone sending/selling copies at this time .. legally CAN be in big trouble with various agencies of the government as well as owners of "Get Smart" .. So, please wait until "Get Smart" is released for sale and then they will be in great shape and not down seventeen generations with shadows and mumbled words .. they will be 'The Best' .. I am glad that I was able to work on "Get Smart" the last two years in casting AND then for Don Adams on/off for 5 years or so .. I shall always miss him a LOT . but have VERY fond memories and keep remembering funny things he said or did throughout our years together as boss/assistant (he gave me the title of executive assistant) and then some kind of producer title on "Don Adams Screen Test" .. wish THAT would come out on DVD too .. but doubt that shall happen .. both shows were just SUPER to work on .. Perhaps someday I shall write a book .. Don did, I hope that it shall be published .. I learned a LOT about his early years that I did NOT know .. Nancy E. Barr
