Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

A dapper group of explorer's journey underground to find the woman's husband, and make scientific discoveries. Apparently they descend a few miles into the Earth, rather than to the center of the Earth. They meet many threatening creatures, but thankfully have a gun and amazing luck. I was surprised that they were always unruffled and clean shaven, but cleanliness is next to Godliness, right? If you can watch this without any knowledge of the Jules Verne classic, you may enjoy it. It actually was a bit entertaining. After 2 hours I thought it must be 3 hours. After 3 hours I decided it must be 4. I can't say that i would have watched it, if I knew it was that long, but it did kinda hook me in. the special effects were OK, not great. My wife liked it, and doesn't remember if she ever saw the '59 version. I did see the '59 version and it has always been a favorite of mine. Too bad they couldn't've found a different title.

I remember James Mason battling through to the center of the Earth and have fond memories of this Jules Verne classic so I was a bit cautious when I watched this 1999 remake recently. However I need not have worried as Treat Williams and Bryan Brown combined to make this an enjoyable rollicking tale that stays very true to Mr Vernes original writings. Good scripts, more than passable cgi and sfx make for a really pleasant 3 hr journey both on the screen and off. Low points are few, as both the main characters and extras all seem to really enjoy their work and as a result the viewer does too! Props costumes and actors combine to deliver a thoroughly enjoyable remake of a classic! PS: I actually got hold of 39 pieces of storyboard art from this movie which are now on my wall so I was obviously a fan of this movie!

The acting is overdone. The animation is weak at best. They try to make up for lack of visionary effects by attempting to overwhelm us with beautiful people with tons of sexual tension. The story itself is an adaptation from an amazing book. However the movie done in the 70's was far more entertaining. You would think that with the stunning advances of cinematography, even a B-rate movie such as this would be more aesthetically pleasing film than the actual tripe it is. I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to movies containing Treat Williams, or say, Lorenzo Lamas. My favorite part of the movie is when the ending credits rolled.

This film was just an ego-trip for evolutionists, allowing them to bring across that they teach 'the truth' and that everyone else is wrong. They try to do it in a way that is subtle, hoping that it won't be so offensive that way, but it still is.Even without this, the film is bad bad bad. The story-line and acting are nothing short of pathetic, especially the chick who falls in love with Treat; did they pick her up from the streets or something? If you want to see a good TV film, watch Jason and the Argonauts instead; Jason is much better than his brother Jeremy.
