Synopsis

Kath & Kim is an American version of the Australian television comedy series of the same name starring Selma Blair and Molly Shannon. The series premiered on NBC on October 9, 2008. The Australian version was created by its original stars, Jane Turner and Gina Riley, who also serve as executive producers and consultants on this version as well, which is co-produced through Reveille Productions and Universal Media Studios. Its first episode premiered in Australia on Sunday, October 12 on the Seven Network and its Australian broadcast was cancelled after the second episode the following week. The series was then pushed to a graveyard slot of 11pm Mondays, and then pre-empted for the 2009 Australian Open after the first-run airing of episode 9, "Friends". Although the show initially garnered unremarkable ratings and mixed reviews from critics, NBC picked up Kath & Kim for a full season order of 22 episodes on October 31, 2008. On January 15, 2009, NBC cut the episode order from 22 to 17 episodes. The show's season finale aired on March 12, 2009. On May 19, 2009, NBC confirmed the series cancellation.

Ploydsge just watch it!
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
S.R. Dipaling ...but I came away pretty cool on this.I have not seen any of the Australian sitcom that this show is based off of so I have no real way of comparing. I've checked the message boards and the comments and read enough remarks doing such and it seems in the majority that the original series is held in better esteem than this production. What I can do is rate THIS show, and I must say that it seems to hold a fair swath of talent but seems to be uninterested in making itself particularly clever or very likable. Instead,it's just Molly Shannon(for whom I was very stoked to see back on television)and Selma Blair(maybe not quite as much)basically trading one-liners between two very vapid and dense characters and laboring VERY hard to be funny(all while modeling sexy, slinky Florida-inspired casual-wear). John Michael Higgins(as KAth,Shannon's character's earnest, sandwich store manager boyfriend)seems to shine the best,as his lines seem authentic and there's something likable, albeit in a nebbishy way. Mikey Day feels one-dimensional as Kim(Blair's character)'s ex-husband,though he can play stupid quite effectively. Maybe TOO much so.NBC publicized the heck out of this, rolling the dice and as such,it seems to have crapped out at least for now. Maybe some writing re-tooling and character changes might infuse some inspiration here. Not really sure, and from what I've seen so far,not real certain I want to find out.
trathmell American viewers need to think outside the square. I enjoy both versions of this show. The Amercan Version is a little watered down compared to the Australian one. (I have been enjoying watching it on the web). Do TV viewers really want more of the same? An alternative comedy on TV is great. All the actors are funny and I have laughed a lot during all episodes. JUST WATCH THIS SHOW ON ITS OWN MERITS AND DON'T JUDGE IT AGAINST OTHER TV SHOWS. This is the key - once you have done this and have given Kath and Kim a chance you will really enjoy watching it!It's OK to laugh and oneself. You guys have The Simpsons what's the difference? I hope that this show continues to develop and I would love to see Molly and Selma do Prude and Trude.
moi sumune I am an ex-pat Aussie living in the US and I loved the US version. I also love the Aussie version. I find all the griping by the Aussies really painful - talk about a tall poppy syndrome as Kath would say. THe thing that makes Kath&Kim work so well for me is that I know those stereotypes in Australia. The point is that the US does not have those stereotypes, and hence they have to adapt the characters to ones Americans can relate to. What is innovative is that it is a show about the mother/daughter relationship which is seldom explored on TV except in sickeningly sweet shows like the Brady Bunch. The reality is often not very pretty, Kath and Kim strip all the sugarcoating off and shows it for what it is - by turning it into a joke. I can't wait to see more of both series!
Togmonity I am willing to give it a chance because it's different and doesn't have a ridiculous laugh track. However, I do think it could be improved if they could make me care about the characters a little bit more. They're pretty 'flat' at this point. Not that this show is meant to be deep or meaningful, but I do wish the characters would develop a little (or show the potential to develop). Right now it's pretty forgetful and not witty. I will give it two more episodes and if it doesn't improve too much, that will probably be it. Someone else mentioned the word wooden and I think that's a pretty good description. Although, I do like Selma Blair and think she plays the pouty daughter really well.
