In other words, this film is a surreal ride.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

I guess people don't read. I, for one, have read at least about 2 dozen King books, and the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, was a favorite of mine. The miniseries was quite a bit slower than the book series when it comes to the plot, and the actors were chosen poorly in some cases. The actress playing Holly is not nearly eccentric enough, and neither she, nor Jerome, were largely enough incorporated into the story. Hodges is not Irish, and while I like Mr. Gleeson, he wasn't quite all American retiree that should have been portraying old man Hodges. They even went as far as to incorporate him as an Irishman and use that in the series. I believe he was a bit too crabby and more of a curmudgeon than he should have been. He was supposed to have been cynical, yet soft, especially for Janey, Jerome, and Holly. Jerome, and especially Holly, are key characters in the trilogy, but it's as if they were barely a part of the story. They didn't even get the credit where credit was due, winning bus passes and keys to where city. Holly put Brady into a coma and saved the day.Lastly, the screenwriter and director really butchered this production when they completely changed parts of the plot on the whole, ie the end. I'm not sure why they couldn't have made the ending story take place at the boy band concert, because it comes into play later with the zappits. I can't figure out why Brady stabbed Lou, either, because they were 'friends,' as much as Brady could be, and she plays a large role in the another one of the stories. Why did they change her name from Freddie to Lou, and why did they change Anthony Frobisher's name to Robi? No one called him that in the book. I don't understand why Odell was a golden retriever. I don't recall it being difficult to find an Irish Setter.

Same problem as before with Netflix. The story is based on a book by Stephen King which to anyone who has read it is almost made for a single season of TV Series.
The story is succint and although not brilliant is serviceable enough. The TV adaptation actually embraces this concept whole heartedly and starts of perfectly with a good pilot episode, followed by good additional ones slowly pushing the characters to the audience. Somewhere after the fifth episode (maybe around the time, someone warned them of extension to a second season), literally very little happens. The characters slowly become a parody of themselves as an attempt is made to film an epsiode where literally nothing happens other than a particular character dying and so on.
Then it becomes complete garbage with cliched options given to the actors and everyone trying their best to not do anything and just push the entire plotline to the second season.
Netflix producers had the option of starting a new story for the second season instead of having no conclusion at all.Watch 'The Sinner' for example to see how to answer most questions and have good story going on for the entire series.

I found this a typical Steven King drag out full of obvious and typical characters and a story line as old as time heading for an obvious conclusion. Nut case commits crime. Retired cop who couldn't solve the crime while working, begins to do so now while going through all manner of post stress disorders. Nut case has a mentally unstable mother but is a whiz kid who manipulates the world and all around him while continual horror scenes from the crime are flashed across the cops mind (the viewers screen) titivating viewers lowest base levels.

You have to watch this show if you love crime, character driven, and horror stories. So amazing how much quality they put into it and how amazing the acting is! The cat and mouse game with the two main characters is so interesting and draws you in. Sit down and watch this, it is definitely worth it!
