Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
Joanna Mccarty Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
soulexpress Take a series with fine character actors playing quirky, interesting roles, inject it with an equal mix of horror and humor, and you have the original 1974 "Night Stalker" series. Exclude everything that made the original show a cult classic, and you have the flaccid, boring "X Files" clone that was the 2005 reboot. In the original series, Carl Kolchak was a dumpy, cynical middle-aged man whose determination to uncover the facts got him into trouble and often made for hilariously awkward situations. In the new series, Kolchak is young, handsome, steely-eyed, and morose. It ruins the character, transforming Kolchak into something as vapid and generic as a male fashion model. In the original series, Kolchak and his editor, Tony Vincenzo, were each about 50 years old and maintained an antagonistic friendship based on mutual (if grudging) respect. In the new show, Vincenzo was twice Kolchak's age, which recast their relationship as master and apprentice. That doesn't work any better than Kolchak as Brooding Millennial. In the original series, Kolchak worked alone. In the reboot, he had two partners, neither of whom was any more interesting a character than Carl himself. In the original series, Kolchak's foils included a vampire, a werewolf, a zombie, an invisible space alien, a headless biker, a swamp monster, and even the original Jack the Ripper. Some of the monsters were silly-looking, but that somehow added to the show's appeal. In the reboot, Kolchak's foils are frequently human or just amorphous. And like the show it emulates, there's a big, bad conspiracy going on. God forbid a 21st-century horror series not have an ongoing storyline!Thankfully, this pathetic drivel went off the air after a mere six episodes (ten were produced). The original series made it to 20.
joelw-88679 Man, I loved this thing from the start. Granted, I never watched the original but I'm tired of the hate because it's a reboot and original.I watched it when it first came out and was livid when the cancelled halfway through on a two parter..( who has a cliffhanger mid- season??? It's like the planned it or something. ABC fucktards. Good job guys.
taimok Just want to say for starters that the shows direction was going well in the way of the X-files which I have always like and kept my interest. When X-files made its appearance I was stoked because I was a huge fan of the original Night Stalker from the 70's and X-files reminded me of that show. This series however in my opinion would have gone farther if the writers would have brought some elements from the original show besides the names of the characters. The theme music was the first thing I wanted to hear with this series. As a child I first view the original series when I was 8 or 9, at 43 years old i still remember the theme music. As far as the plot of this series it didn't leave me wanting to watch the next episode because i didn't feel i was being set up good enough from the previous episode and didn't have that " want happens next " feeling. So in my opinion this series could have gone along way if it had the feel of the X-files but keeping true to the original series.
dmeister72 First of all, I grew up watching the original television series, with Darren McGavin, whom I hold in terribly high regard. However, the new series was, in my opinion, closer to the more serious intentions of the writers of the original series, which ultimately resulted in a lot of "camp" factor. While I do agree that the series should have picked up someone with a little more personality than Stuart Townsend, the new series was still worth watching. Too bad some Hollywood moron decided otherwise, canceling this show prematurely. While the filming appears somewhat amateurish, the special make-up effects are very well done. At the end of the day, this show should not have been canceled.
