Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

edwinemeyer If you are looking for a children's storybook beginning, middle and end, Then this 13 episode series is not for you. The story grabs you from the moment the opening credits finish. All of these people waking up in an unfamiliar environment, an almost surreal setting..with no knowledge of how or why they are there. Just when you begin to think that you have one "guest" figured out, the writers magically whisk the rug from under your feet... SPOILER ALERT......Tick tock......Tick tock......Tick tock......Tick tock...OK I have given you ample time to make up your mind whether you want to read my final entry.... Some stories end just as mysteriously as they begin... Realism and not fantasy makes this mini series well worth watching.
suzannefisher As usual any show that I think is great gets canceled. I loved the excitement, adventure and drama of this show. Persons Unknown had a good mix of characters to love and hate, an interesting yet suspenseful storyline, and moved at a good pace to keep the interest.I was disappointed there wasn't a second season. As I have said in most of my posts and reviews - how in the world can crap be kept going for season after season and the executives let the actual good shows get dropped? There were some complaints in posts/reviews that criticized the acting, however like ANY show in the first season I believe the issues would have worked out. I really wish NBC would have given this show half a chance.Definitely worth watching!
carlblong To avoid spoilers, I'm going to leave out a lot of the specifics about this show. The basic story is that 7 people wake up in a hotel with no idea how they got there, or even where "there" is. They find themselves in a ghost town under constant surveillance by persons unknown. That really caught my eye. A smart, suspenseful TV show. So I caught the whole series on Netflix, and just finished the series finale a half hour ago.Watching this kind of show all at once (well, over 4 days) enabled me to follow the story a bit closer than an episode a week would have allowed. I highly recommend viewing the show this way. The story doesn't play out as episodic, but rather feels like each episode is a chapter in a book. I would have found it nearly impossible to follow along if I didn't start from the beginning -- more so than with shows like Lost or Heroes. The recaps that begin each episode only cover the previous chapter, which might have been enough to remind people who saw last week's show, but not enough to let a new viewer come in part way through. Too much for a movie, but not episodic enough for TV. Problem #1.The second problem, from what I've read on the internet, is that the marketing department dropped the ball. Like I said above, it's a tough show to attract new viewers, and it was in a rough time slot. On the other hand, it probably shouldn't have gotten fewer viewers than the gymnastics that was on TV the same day. Then the producers made some promises about answering all the questions they'd asked, which left many people feeling betrayed. I can definitely see that. The last episode played out a lot like a season finale, but not a series finale. For a show that involved people being abducted, I'd have expected no way to have a second season: either send them home and have no more story to tell, or keep them trapped and struggle for new material. I was surprised, then, that the show found a third option, and I would love to see a second season. To the producer's credit, though, they did answer all the questions they asked throughout the season (at least to my satisfaction). Where I think people feel lied to is that the last episode asks a whole new batch of questions -- excellent for a cliffhanger, but maybe too many for a series finale. The finale definitely suggests there's more story to tell, but I'm fine (disappointed, but fine nonetheless) that they don't tell it. I feel like it's on par with watching the hero ride off into the sunset, or Batman telling Comissioner Gordon that they can always call him if they need him, Evelyn Salt running through the forest vowing revenge, etc. Lots of movies and books end this way, and I'm glad the producers erred on the side of good writing rather than forcing everything into tidy little holes. The show has a lot of good things going for it: good acting, writing, production value, etc. They kept up the suspense, and even though I didn't always like where they were going or how they got there, I wanted to see how things played out. You have to be willing to suspend disbelief a bit (no more than LOST or THE PRISONER, which are the most obvious comparisons), but it's easy to get caught up in the series. So long as you're fine with wanting more at the end, I highly recommend Persons Unknown.
give-a-little-bit My Review of "Persons Unknown"This mini-series was created by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects), and it entertained me throughout last year's summer. Because of the limited promotion, I had to stumble on "Persons Unknown" by sheer luck. The reason why the studio did not have faith in this show -- with its large potential -- beats me.In the pilot episode, written by McQuarrie, we are introduced to the captives and the place they are held in. Right away, questions arise on why they were taken, and by whom they were taken. Aside from the captives' storyline, there is also a subplot of a reporter, who's investigative eye falls on these mysterious disappearances. This episode neatly lays the groundwork on which this series is built upon. Every captive seemingly has a specific reason for being held; they try to deduce what the motive of the captors is by figuring out where each of them came from.Suspenseful moments are to be expected when the captives try to escape the place they are being held in, when their lives are threatened, and when they start to crack under pressure. For those who like to be surprised until the end, this is your show. The amount of mystery is enormous, and will often catch you off-guard.The main thing I liked was how the main characters reacted in certain situations; mainly, the wariness they showed towards each other, and the questions they asked themselves.I watched this mini-series in its original run, so I had to wait a full week to get a new episode; I'm sure once you start watching now, you won't be able to stop watching until you've seen them all.As for the ending, it was a bit of a let-down; actually, a major let-down. On itself – in the scenario that the show would return for subsequent seasons -- it was a great finale, but as a series finale it just failed. We were promised to get answers to all the major questions by summer's end, yet the finale did not follow through on that statement. They left us hanging with so many questions -- a real shame. So much wasted potential, so much frustration. If you ask me, they could have ended this story with the preceding episode; this episode would have provided more closure, however the burning questions would still remain. If it were up to me, I would bring back "Persons Unknown" for another season. Then we could see a proper conclusion to a great storyline. The finale provides a good starting point for that matter. There is still much to explore for the writers, so I'd say bring back "Persons Unknown." Taking everything into account, I am going to give "Persons Unknown" an 8 out of 10.
