Synopsis

Ponderosa is a television series developed by Bonanza creator David Dortort for PAX-TV that ran for the 2001–2002 television season. Envisioned as a prequel to the long-running NBC series Bonanza, it had less gunfire, brawling and other traditional western elements than the original. Bonanza creator David Dortort approved PAX TV's decision to hire Beth Sullivan, creator and executive producer of Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman to oversee scripts and executive produce, which some believe gave the series a softer edge. Ponderosa was canceled after one season, in part because of disappointing ratings and high production costs. Although Sullivan had hoped to film the series in and around Los Angeles, PAX decided to film in Australia to reduce costs. Series "show runner" Sullivan sustained severe injuries in a car crash only twelve days after the airing of the first season's last episode. The show should not be confused with Ponderosa, the title used for Bonanza reruns aired on NBC during the summer of 1972.

Perry Kate Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
IslandGuru Who payed the critics
Calum Hutton It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
Blake Rivera If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
robbie-20 Ponderosa is an excellent show for the whole family. It has enough intelligence, excitement, and humor for adults and wonderful morality lessons for children, without being preachy. I hope they find a way to continue making this show because there is nothing left on TV to watch beyond this. Ponderosa is absolutely top-notch.
LilAnnie Truely an excellent family show which brings back family values......something that's been missing for quite some time. The acting is superb, and the actor's chosen to play the part's were very well selected. I couldn't have picked a more perfect actor then Daniel Hugh Kelly to play the part of Ben Cartwright. I think he did justice to the character in his portrayal of a younger Ben raising three young son's. Matt Carmody played an excellent Adam with his wit and charm. Drew Powell played a tremendous rendition of our beloved Hoss with his warm smile and huge heart. Jared Deparis played a believable Little Joe at age 12. The writing was terrific, and became more "Bonanza" like with each episode. It is my sincere wish and hope that The Ponderosa WILL RETURN again! We certainly need more show's like this especially in these present times that we live in.KEEPING THE FAITH!Lil Annie
fitter We are long time fans of Bonanza and after seeing the twenty episodes of the Ponderosa we are even greater fans of the Cartwright's. The four fine actor's are superb. They have really captured the spirit of the Cartwright's and deserve a long run on television.
