Synopsis

Rocko is a wallaby who has emigrated to America from Australia. He lives in O-Town and tries to get through life but, of course, comes across a multitude of dilemmas and misadventures he must get through. Other characters include Rocko's best friend, Heffer, a steer who has been raised by wolves, Filbert, a paranoid hypochondriac turtle, Rocko's faithful (but none-too-bright) dog Spunky, and Ed Bighead who detests Rocko and hates having him for a next door neighbor. On this show, Rocko has such adventures as trying to adapt to a new vacuum cleaner, having Heffer move in temporarily after his parents kick him out, and going to a movie theater.

Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Ogosmith Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Kirandeep Yoder The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
Bkaj88 I remember seeing this cartoon when I was younger and now, just by watching it again brings back my childhood. Its a funny disturbing show but surprisingly now, I realize I get the hidden adult humor they tossed in it and thinking back, kinda surprises me I grew up watching this kind of show, as well as Ren and Stimpy an Ahh! Real Monsters. I won't get into that because they are all so similar. But out of all those shows, my opinion, I prefer Rockos Modern life. I think it fits in for anybody in their 20s because it's about a 20 year old guy, Rocko who has his own place, has a job (but low budget), friends (Heffer and Philburt) to party with, and just anything common for a guy in his 20s. But besides the point, I love this show, I own it on DVD, finally and If you are looking for some comedy for kids or teenagers, this show fits right in.
zzzac-873-166168 When most kids at my school think of 90s Nick, they think of rugrats, hey Arnold and All That. Me: Rocko's Modern Life! Rocko' s Modern Life is one of the best cartoons of the 90's, and it deserves a lot more credit than people give it. The show focuses on the life of a talking wallaby who immigrated to America from Australia. His friends Heffer(a steer, not a cow!) and Filbert, a turtle, help him survive on his crazy adventures. The series is known for its adult humor. Every episode had "Chokey Chicken" restaurants in it. Really really big man and his magic "nipples of the future. In "the emperor's new Joe" the chameleon bros tell rocko of the city of "ballzack". The episodes "schnit-heads" and "who gives a Buck?" are pretty self explanatory. Literally every episode has sexual humor in it. There is a banned episode called "leap frogs" where rocko's neighbor Mrs bighead tries to have sex with him. One episode I think is worse than leap frogs is the episode "Flu-In-U-Enza", a rarely talked about episode. The episode has blood splatter, a guy dies from smoking a cigarette, doctor bend-ova literally grabs rocko's balls three times, a hot dog rips off rockos scalp and the moment that made my jaw drop was one that challenged even Ren and Stimpy. Rocko got high off a butt pill then barfs in a toilet. My god, who gave this show a TV-Y rating. Does that description even sound like its from a kids show? This show really should be rated TV-PG, it rivals PG shows like Ren and Stumpy and Regular Show despite being rated TV-Y. I will never understand why it has its current rating. But that's one of the reasons I enjoy Rocko so much, now as a teenager I get all the jokes that flew over my head. This show is even an ancestor for several shows today. Spongebob and camp lazlo are made by the same crew and more than 10 shows have some link to this show. The guys who play heffer and Filbert on rocko play sponge bob and plankton. But this show trumps them all and in my opinion one of the best cartoons of the 90s. And I don't know why so many people think this is a "Ren and stimpy ripoff". This show has anthropomorphic animals as the people of earth, while Ren and stimpy are anthropomorphic pets in a world with people in it. Well Ren and Stimpy is a Tom and Jerry ripoff because it also has two anthropomorphic pets in a human world also. Also so the idea for Rocko started in the late 80s before Ren and stimpy came out. They are both great shows but come on, rocko deserves better than that.I also cannot believe how underrated this gem is. And I have never heard anyone talk about this show, its all sponge bob this and rugrats that. I wish more people knew about this show, it better than ANY cartoon that came after it. It is funnier than that overrated family Guy, that's for sure. It must have been 10 years last time I saw this on Nick, which really breaks my heart. Im also sad at what Nick has become, basically a second Disney channel. I wish they would show classic series like this instead of icarly, all these kids have is sponge bob and a bunch of tween girly crap. Rocko's Modern Life should be revived, it would probably be a major success!10/10 ROCKOS MODERN LIFE!
StClair59 Rocko's Modern Life was one of my all-time favorite shows as a kid. It is about a wallaby named Rocko, his dog who (possible spoiler) eats *everything*, Spunky, his two best friends, Heffer Wolfe (a steer) and Filburt (a turtle), and his froggy neighbors, Ed and Beverly Bighead. I love Rocko, and, whoever says that Nickelodeon isn't all that good anymore, I agree! I'm not saying I hate iCarly and those other new shows (I may think they'd be okay if I ever get the chance to watch them), but ever since Jimmy Neutron and some of the other new shows took the places of Doug, Pete & Pete, Aah! Real Monsters, Rocko's Modern Life, and the other Nickelodeon classics, Nick's totally not the same anymore, and I hate that! My cousin Jordan told me Rocko didn't come on anymore, and I kind of had that feeling and was like, "I hate that!" However, if you have easy access to the Internet, don't fret. You can still watch some of the fun episodes about Rocko, Heffer, Filburt, Spunky, and all their craziness on a little website-it's called YouTube!
nerdygirl Nickelodeon is famous for one thing and one thing only: getting gems of a show, and canceling them for dreck. Rocko's Modern Life is one of the lost wonders. It's a show, that, like it's grosser predecessor, Ren and Stimpy, is full of adult humor and homosexual undertones and just plain sexual undertones, but plenty of humor that's simply based on snot and fart jokes. It also has it's controversy, at least one episode was banned from being re-run in it's original running of 93- 96, but has been re-run in syndication many times, on pay cable network Nicktoons TV.It's a show that should be released on DVD, and can be watched by adults as well as if not more than kids. Don't even try to pan this as just a cartoon. I'm 19 and only recently did I get the whole "Chokey Chicken" thing. What other cartoon, aside from the original Ren and Stimpy, could have so much humor that flys right over the heads of the supposed target audience. When I was a kid, I never understood why every one got so upset when Rocko said that his secret was he had always been especially fond of rainbows...it just went over me. Watching it a few years back, I finally got it, and about wet myself laughing so hard. It is even funnier to listen to him try to get out of it by saying that he meant dolls and then something else distinctly feminine. Not to mention the fact that this all happens at a birthday party for Philburt and Dr. Hutchenson's children...one of whom looks distinctly like Heffer. And the episode "leap frogs"-which I always want to call "horny toads"- were Mrs. Bighead has Rocko over to help with a few chores and subsequently tries to seduce him....about died laughing last time I saw it. It was banned for a while after it's first airing, for obvious reasons. I'll just leave you with those gems, and go about my day and praying to the gods of passed on Nickelodeon shows that this ends up on DVD some day soon.Seriously A+ show^_^
