Rectangular_businessman I liked a lot this anime series. It was very enjoyable to watch, and it had a very good plot (Which makes a perfect balance of action, comedy, drama and heartwarming moments) The characters from this anime were very likable and interesting, being very well developed.The animation starts being merely decent, but it gets better as the series advances. The art is pretty solid, with very cool and well made designs. The music was excellent. Despite some forgettable filler episodes, this was a very entertaining animation, with lots of virtues and memorable moments.Personally, I think that "Rurouni Kenshin" is at the same level that other great anime series such as "Trigun", "Wolf's Rain" and "Samurai Champloo".9.5/10

GGrievous I first saw this great anime when I was about 10 or 11 years old, and by that time I didn't know what anime was so I didn't care much about this series...I mean, I liked it but for me it was just another show on TV. Now, 8 years later, I get the chance of rewatch this series again, and I came the conclusion: This is a truly fantastic series!!!! It has great sword fighting actions scenes, a hero that is capable of huge mood swings (I love kenshin's goofy faces), some real history, dramatic characters, a great story and the music is superb. One thing I did like is the fact that the main character, Kenshin, never kills the opponent and have good sense of moral. Kenshin is one of the best characters in anime history in my opinion, and Shishio, the mummy guy as some people know him, is by far the best villain in the series and also one of the greatest villains in anime history, at least in my opinion. Every character in this series has a history and this anime has been created in a way that allows them to show you that background on each character, making each character very interesting and unique.You cannot call yourself a true anime fan without watching Rurouni Kenshin, and if you like samurai and things like that you will certainly love this series. I was hooked from the first episode and I'm very sad for not be able to find the DVDs.In my opinion it is the best anime in its class, and so I give it a perfect 100/10!!!!

AngusYoung76 First off, Rurouni Kenshin is a show that involves an assassin that was once feared all over the city of Kyoto, Japan in 1864. His blade carved through the Shogunate and his bloody work earned him the nickname Battousai,the Manslayer (Hitokiri Battousai). Then a tragedy happened which made him quit his bloody work and disappear until eleven years into the Meiji came. The once ruthless and heartless assassin was now a gentle and kind 28 year old man with a reversed-bladed sword (Sakabatou) at his side. He uses the blade to protect as many people as he can to repent for the murders he created in his past. Now comes the story. Basically Kenshin Himura, Battousai, meets new friends that help him become more human, somewhat, and give him a place to live in the world instead of being wanderer.Now to my review of the show. Rurouni Kenshin is by far one of the best anime series I have seen. It doesn't have magic or some gay energy crap. It only has sword fighting and life conflicts, political or personal. Yeah, I know it has moves that cannot be performed by anybody, but that's basically the style of anime, except for some. The story is great since it's based on a real life era and also has people in the series that once existed, such as Hajime Saitou and Souji Okita and Okubo. Even Kenshin is based off of a real life person. The plot isn't like "Oh, I guess I'll go off fight someone and win again and stop them from taking over the world again." It's has more personal stories involved in it. For instance Soujirou Seta was taught that the strong live and weak die at a very young age and Kenshin is trying to persuade him that this is not true. This leads to a mental break down of Soujirou and leads him to realize things a little bit more. Someone once said that the dialog carries on, but it does this because the people are debating basically on a mature issue and this is what makes this anime far from the rest (Even though the first arc didn't really have this since it was made way back). It doesn't just have the two fighters running into each other and fighting nonstop. No, they discuss their beliefs and try to end it without fighting if possible to make things better.The dubbing is a lot better than a lot of other shows such as Dragonball Z or those kind of shows. In those shows they just keep saying "Look at his power!!!" or "Super Saiyan!!!". Rurouni Kenshin has a more mature approach such as "This is the only way that I can escape the wrongs that I have done" "If you stay alive then you can repent for what you have done, however if you die then it's all over. You'll never find your family if you die." or something like that.Now the animation improves as the series goes on, such as the Wandering Samurai is not a well animated as the Kyoto Arc.This is my first review by the way and if you do like Rurouni Kenshin, then you should check out Samurai X which tells the story of Kenshin as the assassin and ten years after the Rurouni Kenshin series. By the way...Kenshin was 17-18 when he was known as the Battousai.Now, if you want to just get a quick look at the show I recommend to watch the Kyoto Arc (Episodes 28-63 or somewhere around there)for a better time. Also, the mummy guy is not a zombie or mummy as a lot of people think. He has bandages on because his skin was severely burnt when the Choshu Clan tried to kill him so he needs to wrap up in them.

SimpleWalrus First off i am a serious fan of this anime, it alone got me involved in anime and manga..Anyway the person who wrote that they don't get this anime and didn't think it was all that great probably hasn't seen the OVA's which would probably fill in the plot hole that they spoke of in the beginning of their entry. The OVAs sum up his childhood through adolescence and i think you cant truly appreciate this anime until you've seen them, because it really helps you understand the "inner" Kenshin and you even get to see a bit of Shishio at the end when he kills the traitor, so i think that would help them to understand the plot and really make Kenshin much more enjoyable to anyone who enjoys a good anime
